Nothing Uncovered (2024) K Drama Episode 5

Apr 3, 2024

Nothing Uncovered Episode 5 starts with Jung-won finding out that her therapist, Yoon-young, was the woman in the red coat who was with her husband. She confirms it when she sees the same coat in the therapist’s office. We then see a clip of Yoon-young editing the text that sent Jung-won to the wrong floor of the building.

Jung-won then gets a call from her husband who tells her to come for a foundation’s opening ceremony. Jung-won pretends everything is fine and leaves her therapist’s clinic. In her car, she recalls how it was Woo-jae who had recommended this clinic to her. Jung-won then calls the clinic’s nurse, Ms. Choi and takes her up on her offer of having a meal together.

Tae-heon and Myung-soo are going through their list of suspects when Kim Min-chul arrives at the police station. He was on patrol at the time of Eun-sae’s death. Tae-heon questions him about it.

Jung-won, meanwhile, goes out for a drink with Ms. Choi and gets her talking. She says Eun-sae went to Yoon-young as a patient as well. She also reveals that the doctor films all her consultation sessions, which shocks Jung-won.

Elsewhere, Yoon-young watches a clip from one of Jung-won’s sessions. Woo-jae arrives and Yoon-young warns him about the listening devices Jung-won left. They’re at Woo-jae’s old studio apartment and Yoon-young says she has now rented it herself. Yoon-young reveals that Jung-won knows he went to see Eun-sae the day he died.

She then says that Jung-won had blood on her sleeve that day when she came for the consultation. Woo-jae pushes her away and says he should never have gone to her for help.  But he’s perturbed by the news of Jung-won’s listening devices.

In the morning, Ms. Choi wakes up in a hotel room. Jung-won is there and tries to get Choi to help her — she wants the tapes of Eun-sae’s sessions. Jung-won then goes to work and overhears her colleagues discussing her husband’s scandal, thanks to Noh Jin-ho. Jung-won walks in and stands up for herself.

Jung-won then goes to Woo-jae’s family home and searches through his old room. She finds a photograph of Woo-jae and Yoon-young together, way back in high school. She then calls Yoon-young.

Back in the police station, Tae-heon realises that Eun-sae and her brother were born in Mueon — the same city Woo-jae and Min-chul went to high school. Mo Hyung-taek worked in Mueon for a period as well. All the suspects except for Jung-won are connected to this place.

Noh Ji-ho visits Tae-heon and asks questions about his relationship with Jung-won. Tae-heon deflects and refuses to offer insight into the investigation as well. Tae-heon later visits the grave of an officer named Cha Jin-woo.

A flashback to three years ago shows Tae-heon furiously breaking into his partner’s car. Inside, he finds a suitcase full of cash. Someone calls and gives Tae-heon the other detective’s location. But when he reaches there, the detective falls off the building. Jin-woo tells Tae-heon that Jung-won is also deceiving him. He dies and Jung-won soon arrives. Tae-heon accuses her of dating him only to get her scoop on Jin-woo, for her show.

Back in the present, Tae-heon comes across Jung-won, who has also come to put flowers on Jin-woo’s grave. They exchange words and afterwards, Tae-heon goes off to play baseball with another man, an ex-detective who seems to have known him for a long time.

Jung-won comes home and meets Woo-jae. He confronts her about her bloody clothes and asks if she killed Eun-sae. He says he just wants to protect her. Jung-won comments that they are both suspecting each other of murder now.

It is the day the couple heads to the opening ceremony of the charitable foundation. The detectives are there too. Yoon-young makes a surprise appearance and we realise Jung-won invited her. She and Woo-jae pretend to be meeting for the first time.  Jung-won gets a text from Choi, who says she has copied the videos of Eun-sae’s sessions. So this is why Jung-won invited Yoon-young out.

Woo-jae and Jung-won take the stage to answer the reporter’s questions. Noh Jin-ho makes a scene by referring to Eun-sae. Jung-won openly says that she will cover the investigation on her show, hinting at what Choi told her about Geum-sae assaulting the actress. Geum-sae, having also been invited by Jung-won, hears this and storms off.

Later on, Jung-won sees Tae-heon follow Woo-jae. She calls Tae-heon and tells him to talk to her first. Seeing that Noh has been keeping an eye on Jung-won, Tae-heon pulls Jung-won into a supply room. He asks her for the real reason she’s defending Woo-jae.

Noh comes across Woo-jae and taunts him about Jung-won. Woo-jae brushes him off and then hears a staff person mention that a detective is inside the supply room. When Jung-won and Tae-heon leave the room, Woo-jae sees them. He calls Tae-heon and tells him to meet him on the roof.

There, Tae-heon questions Woo-jae about the other woman in the red coat. He also mentions the Mueon coincidence. Woo-jae’s reluctance to answer makes him think there really is something to do with Mueon. Woo-jae almost gets in a fight with Tae-heon but Jung-won arrives in time to stop them.

Turns out, Jung-won had been eavesdropping the whole time. At home, Woo-jae gives her a pendrive with proof of the assault on Eun-sae, for her show. Jung-won also receives the videos of Eun-sae from Choi.

Meanwhile, the detectives find out that Jin Myung-sook’s ex-husband was involved in a chemical plant fire case. After his death, she approached Mo’s family on purpose. Tae-heon says that Myung-sook also has a connection to Mueon.

In the therapy session videos, Eun-sae openly refers to Yoon-young and Woo-jae being in the same high school. She asks if Yoon-young knows of someone called Na-ri. She heard Woo-jae say the name in a drunken stupor.

Jung-won takes a closer look at the high school photograph of Woo-jae she found. She then takes a train to Mueon. But somebody is following her through the streets of the town. Jung-won attacks him but it’s only Tae-heon at the end of Nothing Uncovered Episode 5.

The Episode Review

Nothing Uncovered Episode 5 explores the character of Yoo Yoon-young and her role in Woo-jae’s life. We find out quite a few interesting things like their connection going all the way back to high school. Han Chae-ah plays the therapist incredibly well. She’s smoothly navigated her portrayal from a concerned doctor to someone manipulative and sinister, a perfect addition to a melodrama like this one.

Woo-jae continues to be an enigma and it’s interesting how his dialogues never really reveal which side he is on. Tae-heon sadly continues to have wooden expressions. Characters aside, the story is headed in a thrilling direction now that the threads seem to be coming together through the connection to Mueon. A tad slow all around, but nevertheless, I am eager for more!
