On April 12, Korean news outlet Sports DongA reported that Kyuhyun, who is currently fulfilling his mandatory military service, would be making his first post-military variety show appearance on tvN’s “Kang’s Kitchen.”
Later that day, however, Super Junior’s agency Label SJ responded by clarifying that Kyuhyun was actually in talks to appear on the upcoming seventh season of tvN’s “New Journey to the West” instead.
A representative of the agency stated, “Kyuhyun is currently in talks to appear on the next season of tvN’s ‘New Journey to the West’ after his discharge. However, we have never discussed [the possibility of his appearing on] the next season of ‘Kang’s Kitchen.'”
A source at tvN similarly confirmed, “It’s true that Kyuhyun is currently in talks to appear on ‘New Journey to the West 7.'”
Prior to his enlistment, Kyuhyun appeared on both the third and fourth seasons of “New Journey to the West.” During the fourth season, the singer won the chance to ask producing director (PD) Na Young Suk for a wish, and he asked the PD for the opportunity to return to the popular variety show after he had completed his military service. At the time, Na Young Suk promised to make Kyuhyun’s wish come true.
Kyuhyun, who is currently serving as a public service worker, will officially be discharged from the military on May 7.
Are you excited to potentially see Kyuhyun return to “New Journey to the West”? Stay tuned for more updates on his post-military plans!
