“Escape” is belatedly gaining steam at the Korean box office!

Thanks to strong word of mouth, the new action thriller starring Lee Je Hoon and Koo Kyo Hwan has started to see an uptick in popularity—and since July 8, it has enjoyed an uninterrupted streak at No. 1 at the Korean box office.

On July 12, the Korean Film Council announced that “Escape” had reached a total of 1,009,042 moviegoers, meaning that it took less than 10 days to hit the 1 million mark.

“Escape” tells the story of a North Korean sergeant who dreams of escaping to South Korea (played by Lee Je Hoon) and the major who ruthlessly attempts to stop him (played by Koo Kyo Hwan).
