“Curtain Call” stars Ji Seung Hyun and Hwang Woo Seul Hye recently sat down to talk about their characters in the highly-anticipated drama!
KBS 2TV’s “Curtain Call” is an upcoming drama series that centers around the family of Ja Geum Soon (Go Doo Shim), an elderly woman from North Korea who owns the Paradise Hotel. She recruits a young theatre actor named Yoo Jae Heon (Kang Ha Neul) to fulfill her last wish with the limited time she has left.
Ji Seung Hyun and Hwang Woo Seul Hye play the roles of Park Se Joon and Hyun Ji Won respectively, a couple living a luxurious life in the Paradise Hotel. Park Se Joon is a large stockholder of the hotel and the embodiment of an individual belonging to the elite class. His wife Hyun Ji Won is a former newscaster and the picture of elegance and poise. But not everything is at it seems when it comes to this power couple as their carefully constructed masks hide their true intentions from those around them.
Ji Seung Hyun, who is known for his stellar performance in the 2022 drama series “Why Her?,” revealed that his character Park Se Joon is someone who gives the appearance of being level-headed and composed, when in fact he is hiding his own sorrows, as well as a warmth that may not be obvious from the beginning. He chose the words “perfect,” “cold,” and “sadness” to describe his character, further explaining, “As time goes on, I think you will be able to feel Park Se Joon’s true intentions and feelings.”
On his character’s style and appearance, Ji Seung Hyun said, “Since he’s a professional manager, we tried stylings that were very classy, including adding expensive watches and clothes.” For viewers, he hinted that observing Park Se Joon’s wardrobe would be a fun and interesting experience of its own.
Hwang Woo Seul Hye, who also starred in “Café Minamdang,” described her character as being a delicate and ethereal woman, remarking that Hyun Ji Won is “the complete opposite of myself.”
“On the outside, she appears like an elite individual, but on the inside she is harboring many thoughts and worries,” she explained. To describe Hyun Ji Won, she chose the phrases “wants to be elegant,” “full of compassion,” and “socially oblivious.” She explains how Hyun Ji Won is always looking on the positive side of things, which in turn can make her appear oblivious in certain social situations. “But you will be able to feel that she is a very warm and compassionate person,” Hwang Woo Seul Hye commented.
In terms of their bond off set, both Ji Seung Hyun and Hwang Woo Seul Hye had nothing but good things to say about one another.
“As opposed to the heavy atmosphere that appears when we’re acting, we actually have lots of fun,” Ji Seung Hyun said. “We’ve talked with each other and have said that it would be fun to shoot something like a romantic comedy together later on.”
Hwang Woo Seul Hye commented, “I’m having fun filming with all of the cast members, including Ji Seung Hyun. Every day on set our laughter just doesn’t stop.”
“Curtain Call” is set to premiere on October 31 at 9:50 p.m. KST.
