Feb 16, 2024

Jin I-soo, born into a third-generation conglomerate, enjoys a life of abundance, devoid of the need for assistance from others. His world takes an unexpected turn when he becomes embroiled in a complex case. Driven by the desire for a new challenge, Jin I-soo makes a surprising decision.

Opting to immerse himself in the gritty world of crime-solving, Jin I-soo joins the Kangha Police Station’s violent investigative team, specialists in apprehending robbers. His motivation is to leverage his wealth and personal connections to make a difference in the field. In this venture, he partners with Detective Lee Gang-hyun, a dedicated and adept investigator known for his smooth-talking skills.

Despite I-soo’s affluent background, Gang-hyun remains indifferent to his presence, setting the stage for a compelling partnership rooted in the pursuit of solving crimes and bringing perpetrators to justice. As they delve into the intricacies of their work, the narrative promises a blend of wealth, intrigue, and the challenges inherent in the world of criminal investigation.

The fifth episode kicks off from the previous one’s ending where we see Do-jun hitting I-soo’s head, making him collapse. Do-Jun says that his master, Professor Noh exploited his paintings for fame and accused him of plagiarism. An argument starts and Do-jun simply stabs himself. I-soo admits him to the hospital where Kang-hyun arrives. She gets mad at I-soo for making the risky move by himself.

Additionally, Kang-hyun gets yelled by her senior authorities for not protecting I-soo. Her senior advises her to transfer, citing her father’s bribery-related dismissal. Despite the accusations against her father, Kang-Hyun maintains his innocence. The following day, she visits Do-jun and asks him about the scarf to which he says he bought for his professor’s wife. Now the wife becomes a prime suspect. I-soo books a VIP room in the hospital for Do-jun and also learns that Professor Noh’s safe key is missing.

I-soo tells about the missing key to Kang-hyun. The duo then meet Hwa-young, Mr. Noh’s wife who acts super ignorant. They catch Hwa-Young and her boyfriend attempting to open the safe and arrest them. Later that day, I-soo arranges a special exhibition with the paintings of Mr. Noh’s student who died by suicide after he stole her work.

Later that night, Yi-Soo declines an offer from his elder brother to move closer to his house. Simultaneously, their father, Jin Myeong-Cheol, a candidate in the Seoul Mayoral Elections, scrutinizes his competitor Wang Jeong-Tae. Jeong-Tae plans to unveil I-Soo’s illegitimacy and his mother’s suspicious death just before the voting date.

The following day, the team delves into a new case, discovering a man who choked on a rice cake. Kang-Hyun interviews the granddaughter, who mentions the missing National Seal of the Korean Empire. Despite skepticism from the team, Yi-Soo consults an expert who identifies the seal, linking it to the deceased Choi Sang-Soo.

In parallel, Kang-Hyun uncovers three similar cases of rice cake choking in the neighbourhood, previously deemed accidents. Confronting her senior for case files, he refuses, prompting Kang-Hyun to investigate the families of the initial two victims.

While conducting the investigation, Kang-Hyun and I-Soo observe valuables like gold, cash, and the seal missing from the victims’ houses. Recognizing a pattern, they investigate the Yeongseong Family Church, where they learn that the lady there has duplicated an account book. Further, when they find CCTV footage and narrow their suspects, they realise those two suspects, Park Jae-geun and Go Young-bum have faked as funeral photographers. Why so? We’ll know soon.

Slowly the relationship between the three real cops and I-soo is blooming and it’s lovely to see. Though one cop already loves I-soo, Kang-hyun and the other don’t like I-soo. However after solving almost two cases together, they’re slowly developing trust. On the other side, we are introduced about Kang-hyun’s father’s past and the false allegations. We can see that she’s deeply troubled by the way they spoil her father’s reputation. She is definitely waiting to show the truth and prove her father’s innocence.

On the flip side, I-soo has a dark past which we’re yet to completely find out. There are chances of his mother’s death being a murder that could have been executed as a public stunt to gain votes. Moroever I-soo’s memories aren’t clear so once he remembers everything, another revelation will be found.
