Dec 9, 2023

Episode 11 of The Matchmakers begins with the bookseller sharing that he is taking care of Yeoju at the behest of Socheon, whom he likes. At present, Bachelor 12 and Ha-na play on the swings. She spots the Crown Prince being abducted and runs after him.

Doo-ri and Shi-yeol enjoy and bicker but he looks sad when she reveals that she is marrying. Elsewhere, Soon-gu says all of his firsts are with Samsoon and she is touched.

Meanwhile, Jung-woo creates a new noble identity for Soon-deok and tells her he will be free to marry soon. Before she can give her response they see the commotion and run after Ha-na. Bachelor 12 falls and another woman saves him. Jung-woo’s chest pains and he tells him to never let the woman go as he rushes past.

They then come across the Slave Hunter and Yeoju and are confused by their closeness. Before Jung-woo can ask why Soon-deok is pretending to be Yeoju, they spot Ha-na and the Crown Prince being attacked by Jo’s men.

The Slave Hunter chases them away along with a little help from Jung-woo who reveals he read how to fight to protect Soon-deok. Jung-woo’s chest also pains on seeing Ha-na and the Crown Prince together before he takes the boy home. At the palace, he reveals to the King that someone lured the Crown Prince and wonders if it is the Jos.

Back at the bookshop, Soon-deok learns that the Slave Hunter is the lieutenant who let Yeoju escape and that he likes her. Alone, she finds a letter from Jung-woo in which he proposes to her.

She meets him in her widow outfit and shares that she wasn’t sure she would fall in love again but she did. However, they can never marry or meet again as she is the noblewoman, Jung Soon-deok with a son.

As a disappointed Jung-woo heads home, his heart is content on seeing Bachelor 23 with the woman he met foraging, and Bachelor 12 with the woman who saved him. Bu-kyum too shows up to to reject Doo-ri. Bong is frustrated as Jung-woo doesn’t try to stop any of the bachelors. However, Sam-soon cries as they are back to square one and she cannot marry if her sisters don’t.

Jo suspects Jung-woo as his attendant learns that the monk is In-hyun’s lover and is missing. Park suggests that Jung-woo may have found out what he did to his son. So-hyun overhears and is shocked as she thinks some enemy killed In-hyun.

Soon-deok tries to finish Operation Maeng on her own but Ha-na refuses to tell who the boy she saved is and she is forced to contact Jung-woo. Even though he is heartbroken, he promises to forget the proposal to finish the matchmaking. However, even though he thinks Ha-na and the Crown Prince are fated, they cannot marry.

Curious by his wording, Soon-deok takes him to Madam Maeng who declares that he is an Agent of Love who will feel the need to match those fated. He suddenly realises how to match Ha-na and the Crown Prince.

Meanwhile, Jo wants to kill the Crown Prince and Jung-woo. So-hyun says no and he is angry with her for undermining him publicly. She simply tells him that if he has a valid reason for Jung-woo’s assassination, he should tell her.

At the end of The Matchmakers Episode 11, Soon-deok wishes she was also an Agent so it would legitimise her matchmaking. Jung-woo points out that if he can see fates, Soon-deok is his. However, since Maeng saw her fate with her late husband, she thinks their feelings are fleeting.

The Episode Review

One of the teasers had mentioned something about a double fate string but none of the episodes showed it. But this will probably be addressed in the next episode to make sense as to how Maeng saw Soon-deok’s fate with the Jo boy and now Jung-woo sees her second fate with him.

The chemistry between him and Soon-deok is finally chemistrying and the K-drama just keeps rising and rising. Some shows suffer from the episode 11 new storyline syndrome but that doesn’t seem to be the case for The Matchmakers.

Even the political intrigue and conspiracy elements are entertaining to watch with the Jos being capable antagonists. So-hyun most definitely has our attention especially as it seems she is going to avenge her eldest son and we are absolutely seated for it.
