Episode 8 of The Impossible Heir begins with In-ha at Tae-oh and Hye-won’s secret meeting place. It’s clear that he knows about Tae-oh and Hye-won’s relationship. The scene shifts to a flashback with In-ju offering Tae-oh drugs. The three – In-ju, Tae-oh and In-ju’s mistress – then go somewhere and Tae-oh notices the driver briefly.

Back at the chairman’s office, we discover that Mo Gi-jun is the son of a woman who worked for the Kang villa (although it’s not clear but the villa is where Kang In-ha was living when he met Tae-oh). The woman died in an accident. Mo Gi-jun went to school with In-ha and later become In-ju’s secretary. Hyun-jin reasons that if Tae-oh wanted revenge, he would make In-ju a complete loser instead of killing him.

Elsewhere, Sunwoo Wan tracks Gi-jun and decides to check on him himself. He meets In-ha along the way who goes inside one of the apartments. Later, Sunwoo explains to Tae-oh that Gi-jun had been living with In-ha soon after his mother died. They lived together for 7 years. Tae-oh is shocked to realise that In-ha has not been his friend. The call that In-ha received from Gi-jun was from Sunwoo, who wanted to check for sure if In-ha is involved with Gi-jun.

The court scene takes place again where Tae-oh is sentenced to capital punishment. In-ha informs the chairman who appears distressed at the news.

Tae-oh is moved to a new prison. He meets the moneylender Boss Tak and his group who were chasing after Hye-won during their university days. A Kang-oh group lawyer explains to In-ha that Tae-oh might get a reduced sentence based on mental instability at the time of the crime. However, In-ha expresses that he wants Tae-oh dead.

It’s further revealed that In-ha was following Tae-oh and Hye-won and clicking their pictures. He imagines Tae-oh and Hye-won intimate while standing in the bathroom and forces himself on Hye-won. She rejects his advances and In-ha chokes her and explains that he only chose Hye-won because Tae-oh was interested in her. Apparently, Hye-won knew that In-ha had found out about them as she saw him standing in her and Tae-oh’s meeting place.

Hye-won goes to meet Tae-oh in the prison. She doesn’t tell him about In-ha and wants his advise on getting chairman’s approval into working again. Tae-oh suggests she directly tell the chairman that she wants to work for the Kang Oh art foundation – where Geum-suk managed her slush funds. Hye-won does exactly that.

Meanwhile, Tae-oh asks Tak to arrange him a mobile phone. Tak shows him his hidden stash of luxuries in the prison and Tae-oh strikes a deal with him. Elsewhere, the chairman asks In-ha to visit for dinner along with Hye-won.

In the prison, Tae-oh is able to secure the mobile but before he can use it, he is called for a visitor. It’s his mother dressed as a monk but he refuses to talk to her.

At night, Tae-oh watches a prison guard’s eyes and realises that the driver wasn’t Mo Gi-jun and asks Tak’s help. Tae-oh calls Sun-woo and tells him about this development. He asks Sunwoo to find the driver who is the evidence that Gi-jun killed In-ju.

Sunwoo meets someone who can give him information on Gi-jun. The man tells him about Roy who is loyal to Gi-jun. Sunwoo and his companions track Roy, who somehow escapes to Gi-jun’s club where Gi-jun swiftly kills him for compromising his location. In-ha appears and proposes to kill Tae-oh.

Hye-won visits Tae-oh in the prison and asks for his help. She, now, wants to won Kang-oh. She shows the scar on her neck. Tae-oh vows to make her the heir.

At the Kang residence, the chairman makes Hye-won the director of Kang Oh’s art foundation much to the dislike of the family.

Later, Gi-jun calls a prison guard in In-ha’s presence. It’s clear that they are going to kill Tae-oh. A guard comes to wake Tae-oh, saying that he has a visitor. Tae-oh leaves and Tak notices his absence. Meanwhile, In-ha visits Sunwoo’s restaurant and recognises him as someone working for Tae-oh.

The Episode Review

This episode was quite exciting. We finally see In-ha’s real personality which is in harmony with all his actions up to this point. This is the same In-ha who bullied Tae-oh just for the sake of establishing his dominance.

This episode makes the motivations of the characters clearer. Hye-won is on her move as well and it will be exciting to watch how Tae-oh and Hye-won turn the tables on In-ha. Currently, we are curious about how Tae-oh is going to save himself from In-ha’s deadly advances. The story is going on a completely different trajectory since his beginning and at least, now, it’s much more enjoyable.
