The Impossible Heir (2024) K Drama Episode 7

Mar 21, 2024

Episode 7 of The Impossible Heir begins with Han Tae-oh trying to understand the deal with In-ju since he plans to get revenge for the attack. We understand that In-ju might be involved with a drug network.

Meanwhile, In-ju makes Tae-oh come to him by portraying Hye-won as a bait. In-ju blackmails Tae-oh and Tae-oh counterattacks with the knowledge of In-ju’s embezzlement and drug network. However, In-ju doesn’t budge and threatens to destroy Hye-won’s life with the pictures. Tae-oh’s weakness, that is, Hye-won overpowers his good judgement and he kneels to In-ju.

Elsewhere, the chairman finds out about Mo-gijun who attacked Tae-oh. He is a team leader of Kang-oh securities on paper but really works for In-ju.

Back at In-ju’s, everything is a blur. In-ju seems to be forcing drugs upon Tae-oh. The next day, Tae-oh wakes up as a murder suspect with In-ju dead. Everyone in the Kang family are shocked. The hacker, Sunwoo Wan, clears up any evidence that might get him in trouble now that Tae-oh has been arrested as the prime suspect.

During the investigation, we discover that Tae-oh cannot remember what happened due to the drugs In-ju put in his drink. He has no supporting evidence in his favour. We further find that on top of the drugs, he was also injected with Methamphetamine, another drug.

Elsewhere we find that Tae-oh has been accused for embezzlement by the media even when the chairman clearly directed In-ha to remain quiet about the entire fiasco to the media. In-ha maintains that the media reports were unexpected while the chairman tells him to sort this mess out.

Meanwhile, Sunwoo Wan plans to leave Korea by acquiring a fake passport. Hye-won confronts In-ha about Tae-oh’s position but In-ha brushes it off. He maintains that In-ju was still his family that Tae-oh killed. He doesn’t seem to doubt that Tae-oh actually killed In-ju unlike Hye-won.

During the court proceedings, Mo-gijun testifies against Tae-oh, putting him further at a disadvantage. In the prison, In-ha comes to meet Tae-oh and blames him for everything that happened. While Tae-oh is going back to his cell, he is shocked that In-ha did not ask him the reason for killing In-ju. Later, Mo-gijun testifies against Tae-oh again.

Elsewhere, the chairman orders Chu Hyuk Jin to investigate the reason behind In-ju’s death.

While on his exercise break in the prison, Tae-oh faints. While fainting, he begins remembering the fateful day. He remembers that there was another person beside Tae-oh, In-ju and In-ju’s mistress.

Tae-oh wakes up at the infirmary and the doctor helps him. It seems she had a grudge against In-ju but we don’t really know anything more. Tae-oh uses the phone at the infirmary to call Hye-won. The next day, Hye-won appears at Sunwo Wan’s cafe. She relays Tae-oh’s threats to Sunwoo, who is reluctant to help him. The prison guard appears when Tae-oh is on the call but agrees to sweep it under the rug for money.

Elsewhere, In-ha has taken over the position of Tae-oh in the future strategy office. He orders to investigate people who might harm the chairman’s position. Hye-won talks to Tae-oh who is in the prison. After the call, In-ha appears and hugs her. It’s clear that Hye-won does not love In-ha and is now uncomfortable around him.

Back at the prison, Sunwoo wan visits Tae-oh disguised as his lawyer. Tae-oh asks him to investigate Mo-gijun who is the starting point of the entire mystery. Elsewhere, In-ha receives a call from Gi-jun and they seem to be close.

The episode ends with Tae-oh getting capital punishment for In-ju’s murder.

The Episode Review

This episode began quite interestingly. We do understand now that the show is using Hye-won only as Tae-oh’s weakness and his tragic flaw. However, this seems to be a very weak plot device considering that Tae-oh’s character has always been a step ahead, so it feels a bit forced and illogical to find him in this position and unaware of the threats lurking amidst him. The capital punishment seems to be too extreme a measure as well.

The episode seems too fast, even in scenes where we need to understand character motivations and logic behind an act. In-ju’s death has little to no coverage regarding the Kang family. Overall, the characters and their motives are falling flat in the show.

The plot progression and script seems to be quite simplistic as well. We understand that In-ha might be behind the whole fiasco, leveraging Gi-jun’s hate for In-ju to trap Tae-oh, who is Hye-won’s love interest. Furthermore, the entire Kang family has now fallen in the background.

The show seems to be too ambitious with too many variables in the plot and characterisation and it seems that it’s unable to hold its weight. Although we still feel curious about the show, but the curiosity arises more from where this insane plot is going than from actual interest and enjoyment.
