The Impossible Heir (2024) K Drama Episode 4

Mar 7, 2024

The episode begins with Geum-seok carrying a pen drive with incriminating information regarding the Chairman’s dirty deeds. She continues to blackmail him in exchange for making Seong-ju the centre of Kangoh. With the immense pressure and stress, the Chairman goes into cardiac arrest. While Geum-seok walks away from him, Tae-oh comes to his rescue.

The family gather at the hospital and while they get into an argument, In-ha receives the news and panics about their plan. He meets with Tae-oh and freaks out about the situation while the latter tries to calm him down. In-ha walks away furiously while Tae-oh remains calm while he faces the storm.

On the other hand, In-ju invites Tae-oh to a new apartment as a bribe for him to become ‘his person’. Seeing the expensive apartment and his conditions, Tae-oh is left less than impressed. He agitates In-ju with his demands and walks away, leaving a bad taste in In-ju’s mouth. In-ju’s assistant receives the brunt of his anger and is commanded to follow Tae-oh around, to find his weak spot.

In a shocking turn of events, it is revealed that the Chairman never really experienced a cardiac arrest but it was a rather long, drawn-out plan designed by Tae-oh. Trusting his judgment, the Chairman went along with his plan and was glad to see his commitment to helping him and the company. When asked for a reward, Tae-oh reveals that he would like to see In-ha as the legitimate third son in the corporation so that he can fight for his place in the family, fair and square.

Shocked at the request, the Chairman asks Tae-oh to create an extensive contract for In-ha and that he should be the one to see through every detail. Just as he goes to share the good news, Hye-won reveals that In-ha is nowhere to be found. As they search his home, he finds out where In-ha could be.

In-ha is seen on a beach, looking out at the waves crashing on the shore and he is transported to his childhood where he saw his mother bleeding out on the ground, leaving young In-ha alone in the world. Just then, Tae-oh finds him and reveals his plan with the Chairman. Hearing that he was left out, made him go blind with rage and he ended up punching Tae-oh.

As a calculative man, Tae-oh calms him down and tries to bring him to the path that they all worked so hard for. After convincing him that all he wants is to see In-ha at the top, the latter nods along but remains suspicious of Tae-oh’s true intentions.

In another scene, Hui-ju breaks off her engagement and tries to convince Tae-oh to believe in her as she will convince her family to accept him as a son-in-law. Hearing her words, he brings reality to the conversation and tells her that at the end of the day, he will never be accepted because he is not ‘one of them’ and warns her to stop forcing him.

While Seong-ju takes on the role of acting chairman, thanks to his mother, the hacker from the previous episode creates a ‘technical error’, leading to a huge loss for Seong-ju in just a day. The Chairman comes in front of Geum-seok and blatantly warns her.

In-ha comes in front of the Chairman and takes credit for the ordeal with Seong-ju and his company. Pleased with his moves, the Chairman asks him for his reward. In-ha finally says that he wants to be known as his third son in front of the whole world. Being convinced by his passion, the Chairman asks him to sign the contract to become the heir of Kangho.

There is a change in pace as we see him sitting at the dinner table with the rest of the family. While the rest of the family is wary of him, Hui-ju gives him a warm welcome. The episode comes to an end with In-ha helping the Chairman sit in a wheelchair and calling him ‘father’ in front of the reporters, causing havoc. The camera pans to Tae-oh, who seems determined now that the plan has finally come into place.

The Impossible Heir Episode 4 Review

This episode was more slow-paced as we remained in the present timeline. The characters that stood out in this episode were Geum-seok, Seong-ju and Hui-ju. Their outbursts and plans made us feel like we were on a journey with them.

However, Tae-oh and In-ha’s bromance took a hit as unnecessary doubts and fights seeped into their relationship. The tension and the physical brawl felt unnecessary and out of character for In-ha. The female lead, yet again, feels like a filler in the script instead of a fleshed-out character. Her stoic acting and monotonous dialogues feel jarring, compared to the other characters.
