Tell Me That You Love Me (사랑한다고 말해줘) is the South Korean remake of the popular 1995 Japanese drama Aishiteiru to Ittekure that has a melodramatic love story like no other. Directed by Kim Yoon-jin, the drama stars Jung Woo-sung, Shin Hyun-been, Kim Ji-hyun, Lee Jae-kyoon, Shin Jae-hwi, and Park Jin-joo alongside other cast members.
The Kdrama brings the story of an artist with a hearing impairment who expresses himself through his art and an aspiring actress who falls in love with him through time. As the two get closer and express themselves in their own way, love is here to bloom in ways like no other.
A romance between a hearing-impaired painter who is used to expressing his emotions through drawings rather than words, and an aspiring actress who expresses her feelings with her voice.
A playful fate brings the lives of Cha Jin-woo and Jung Eun-mo together as they collide with each other when on a trip to Jeju. While one comes here to escape and find inspiration, the other comes for a job that leaves her disheartened. However, their destiny has something else for them as the two find themselves in the middle of a fire incident at a restaurant.
Jin-woo is struck by the scene in front of him as memories of the past come back to him, but Mo-eun doesn’t let him stay in his darkness for long as she pulls him with her and saves his life. This incident makes these strangers come closer and brings unexpected smiles to their faces.
However, goodbyes are not far away as Jin-woo leaves behind his book for Eun-mo which contains a sketch he made of her. While Eun-mo is saddened by this sudden goodbye, she too goes back to Seoul and continues her life, which is no less than the turbulence experienced midflight.
However, these suffocating days find a relief when she meets Jin-woo one day and finally gets to speak to him in sign language that she had been practising this whole time. Jin-woo is shocked by this gesture and feels something inside him as for the first time in his life, someone made an effort to talk to him in his way.
The two soon begin to see a new morning in their lives as they get closer, however, there is still a gap that needs time to fill. Soon, an opportunity arrives as Jin-woo receives concert tickets for the singer whom he remembers to be Eun-mo’s favourite. He hands over the tickets to her and is asked to accompany her right after.
Jin-woo rejects the request but after Eun-mo’s persistence, he finally gives in and promises to meet her in front of the concert hall at 6:30 p.m. While the two are excited about this event, Jin-woo meets an unexpected problem when a neighbour’s child enters his house without his knowledge and the police are called.
The police soon find the child in Jin-woo’s house and assume that he kidnapped the child, due to which he is taken to the police station. There he is made to wait for an interpreter which makes him miss his appointment with Eun-mo. Finally, the interpreter arrives and helps him solve the issue.
Jin-woo then runs to the concert only to find no one there and assumes that Eun-mo has left. Meanwhile, Eun-mo tries to leave but is unable to go back and comes back to the concert hall where she sees Jin-woo. Seeing Eun-mo arrives, Jin-woo is surprised she does not ask his reasons for being late but places his hand on her neck to let him feel the vibrations in her throat while she sings to him.
And just like that, Jin-mo reads sounds with his eyes as Eun-mo brightens his day like no one else.
