Kim Nam Joon, better known as RM (previously known as Rap Monster but changed his stage name in 2017), is a South Korean rapper, songwriter, and record producer born in Ilsan, South Korea. He is the main rapper, songwriter, and leader of the South Korean boy band BTS, which is managed by Big Hit Entertainment.

Before his debut with BTS, he was an underground rapper under the stage name "Runch Randa". He released a number of tracks and once collaborated with fellow underground rapper Zico. He was part of the top 1.3% of the nation in the preparatory university entrance exams for language, math, foreign language, and social studies, and has an IQ of 148. He is fluent in English and Japanese.

In 2015, he released his first solo mixtape, RM. To date, he has recorded with artists such as Wale, Warren G, Gaeko, Krizz Kaliko, MFBTY, and Primary.

In March 2019, after graduating from Global Cyber University with a degree in Broadcasting and Entertainment, he enrolled at Hanyang Cyber University for the MBA program in Advertising and Media.

Alongside the other members of BTS, RM was awarded the Hwagwan of Order of Cultural Merit by the President of South Korea for contributing Korean Culture and Literature to the World.

In July 2021, he and the members of BTS were appointed Special Presidential Envoy for Future Generations and Culture by President Moon Jae In to help "lead the global agenda for future generations, such as sustainable growth" and "expand South Korea's diplomatic efforts and global standing" in the international community.

In November 2022, he received a plaque of appreciation from South Korea's Cultural Heritage Administration. Also in 2022, he released his first studio album, "Indigo", marking his solo debut. He also featured in Balming Tiger's song "SEXY NUKIM".

In 2023, he featured in songs by two other artists: So!YoON!'s "Smoke Sprite" and Colde's "Don't Ever Say Love Me".

More recently, he was appointed honorary ambassador for the defense ministry's war-remains excavation agency.

He enlisted in the military on December 11, 2023.
