Kim Jong Hyeon, better known as Jonghyun, was a South Korean singer-songwriter and radio host. He was a vocalist of the South Korean boy group SHINee and further participated in S.M. Entertainment's project group S.M. The Ballad. He and the rest of the SHINee members debuted in 2008. Jonghyun had been active in music since he was in junior high school. He was in a band and participated in many festivals in this area. The band's name was "ZION", and during one of its shows, he was scouted by SM.
Jonghyun debuted as a solo artist on January 12, 2015, with his first EP, titled Base. Later that year, he released "Story Op.1". In 2016, Jonghyun released his "She Is". In 2017, he released "Story Op.2", with the title track reaching on music charts.
On December 18, 2017, Jong Hyun committed suicide.
Jonghyun's 2nd studio album, "Poet | Artist", was released posthumously on January 23, 2018. Its proceeds went to the 'Shinin Foundation', which was founded by his mother. The foundation helps young struggling artists; festivals are held every December to remember Jonghyun.
