Jung Taek Woon, better known by his stage name Leo, is a South Korean singer, songwriter and actor. He is one of the main vocalists of the South Korean boy group VIXX and it's sub-unit VIXX LR under Jellyfish Entertainment . Leo is known for his high-pitched, sharp, and clear vocals.
Born in Yangjae-dong, Seoul, South Korea, Leo is the youngest of four siblings, he has three older sisters. He studied at Howon University and was a member of the National Youth Soccer Players from 2004 to 2007. Growing up, Leo was actively involved in swimming, boxing, taekwondo, and soccer. While recovering from an injury, he developed an interest in becoming a singer after listening to Wheesung's "Walking in the Sky".
Leo passed his audition to Jellyfish Entertainment on his vocal talent and was one of ten trainees who were contestants in Mnet's survival reality show MyDOL and was chosen to be apart of the final line-up and the 6-member boy group finally debuted with "Super Hero" on May 24, 2012 on M! Countdown.
An avid sports fan, he has appeared in several athletic variety shows with other idols such as Dream Team and Idol Athletics Championship. He even appeared in a special episode of Running Man where he was a member of a soccer team.
The singer has expressed in interest in composing and in 2015, Leo, himself, composed the song "On a Cold Night" (Hangul: 차가운 밤에) from VIXX's fifth single album Boys' Record.
He enlisted on December 2, 2019, serving as a public service worker due to severe panic disorder and depression. He was discharged on September 9, 2021.
He previously showed off his acting skills when participating in a number of stage musicals. His drama debut is 'A Happy Ending Outside the Fence' (2022).
