SM Entertainment is taking an official leap forward into the European market.
On November 16, SM Entertainment announced that they held a ceremony for the signing of a strategic agreement with the British production company MOON&BACK (hereinafter referred to as M&B) at SM’s headquarters in Seoul. The agreement is significant in that SM will officially begin their full-scale development and investment in global music and artist IP (intellectual property rights).
From SM’s side, CEO Jang Cheol Hyuk, CBO (Chief Business Officer) Jang Yoon Joong, CAO (Chief A&R Officer) Lee Sung Soo, and Creative Director Kangta attended the ceremony, while from M&B’s side, a total of nine executives including co-CEOs Nigel Hall, Russ Lindsay, Dawn Airey, and music director Ben Karter were present.
M&B is a production company specializing in television reality shows headquartered in London, England. One of the three co-founders Nigel Hall is a producer who worked on famous British shows such as “The X Factor” and “Britain’s Got Talent.” M&B will be in charge of casting members for the new boy group, and SM will provide K-pop production know-how such as music, music videos, and choreography.
M&B also plans to broadcast the production process of the new boy group in a six-part television series starting in the second half of next year in various countries including Korea, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Co-CEO Russ Lindsay remarked, “We are confident that the combination of SM’s creative skills and M&B’s seasoned experience and curating skills in global entertainment will give birth to a new TV series that can enthuse music lovers around the world.”
