Recap Korean Drama "Doctor Lawyer (2022)" Episode 8

Doctor Lawyer (닥터 로이어) is a Korean law-drama TV series directed by Lee Yong-seok and stars So Ji-sub, Lim Soo-hyang and Shin Sung-rok, alongside other cast members. The series has 16 episodes and takes over MBC’s Friday-Saturday 10 PM KST timeslot previously occupied by Tomorrow. Doctor Lawyer episode 8 has a runtime of 60 minutes.

Yi-han gets ready in Doctor Lawyer episode 8 complete with Hyuk-chul’s knife – it’s time to meet Jin-gi. Jumping to the latter’s office, Yi-han shows everyone that he’s not kidding around when he cuts Jin-gi’s throat open, just like how his own got hurt in the interrogation room.

Everyone looks around tensed as if they all saw a ghost. Jin-gi, however, acts cool and Jayden just asks everyone to calm down and Jin-gi to get treated. Meanwhile, Seok-yeong goes through several files and finds something interesting.

At the meeting, Jayden changes the 100-million-dollar contract to 1 billion dollars, clearly with some plan in mind. When the contract is signed, Jin-gi asks Yi-han what his plan is with the small clinic that he’s trying to run. Instead, he asks him to join his hospital as the head of cardiothoracic surgery and in 10 years, he can be the Director.

Yi-han calls his offer disgusting and asks him never to repeat it to him again. When Jin-gi calls him a monster, just like him, he turns the TV to show them the Tae-moon controversy that has just broken, thanks to Yi-han. He asks him to prepare for two graves, while Hyun-seong runs around screaming like a Banshee, with nothing else to do.

On the other hand, Yi-han’s clinic gets all the equipment necessary thanks to Jayden who leaves Yi-han alone after Seok-yeong gets there. It’s a moment of celebration for Yi-han and his crew and a rare tender moment between Seok-yeong and Yi-han.

However, a good mood only lasts as long and even before they can start to eat, Jung-hyun gets there to call off the surgery. Yi-han assures her that he has everything that is needed for the surgery but she tells him that Yo-sub is now an assistant professor and will not be helping Yi-han in any way.

 

Yi-han asks her whether she’s planning on stealing someone else’s heart again like Seok-ju and Seok-yeong, having overheard the conversation, promises to torment him for the rest of his life if she does something similar to anyone again.

Kang-ho gets a call from Deputy Chief Kook who tells him about meeting Seok-yeong. When he learns where she was, he thinks back to 5 years ago when he was going through Yi-han’s stuff after he got arrested and called in for tea with Jin-gi. The latter used his man-crush on Seok-yeong to manipulate him because of course he did.

While Yi-han and Seok-yeong discuss the weight of wanting revenge, Hyuk-chul’s court date comes up to knock on their doors. Yi-han and Seok-yeong go against each other confidently but acknowledge their camaraderie on their way out of the courtroom.

Seok-yeong is asked to bring Jin-gi to court to testify for Hyuk-chul in 4 days and Kang-ho is left confused, mentioning that he is definitely not going to show up for it. He is doubtful of her and scared of her finding everything out, unaware that she already knows everything.

Getting pressure from all fronts, Yu-na decides to meet Jayden, who then takes her to the race track in order for her to clear her mind. A crazy and thrilling ride later, Yu-na tells Jayden about Hyun-seong’s proposal and asks her to not marry him and confesses his feelings for her.

 

Meanwhile, Jun-hwan’s heart rate drops and Yo-sub tells her that he needs surgery immediately. She begs him to help her, considering only Yi-han can do this difficult surgery, but when he refuses, Jung-hyun goes to Yi-han and they plan to extract him in secret at that time.

Without any other options, Yi-han asks Jayden for his help and hearing of Banseok’s stock prices dropping thanks to Hyuk-chul’s confession, he agrees to trust Yi-han. When he tells Seok-yeong this, she warns him to not trust Jayden so much – something is off about him.

Right on cue, Jayden goes to Jin-gi and tells him about sneaking Jun-hwan off. When Jin-gi asks him why he’s helping him, he says that he wants more shares but doesn’t want Banseok to crumble. Jin-gi is sceptical but Jayden mentions that he is just using Yi-han and when his work is done, he will simply toss him.

 

The day of, as the Yi-han goes to retrieve Jun-hwan after the cameras are shut off, Seok-yeong keeps an eye on who the VVIP is. It turns out to be Assemblywoman Yoon Mi-sun and Seok-yeong realises that the water is murkier than she had imagined. On the other hand, Yi-han rushes to get Jun-hwan out of Banseok but is met with a couple of guards who stop them.

As Dae-woong tries to fight everyone off himself, which doesn’t work, and in the end, Yi-han gets involved in the fight as well, hurting his arm in the process. Jin-gi asks Jung-hyun to join him as a last-ditch effort, but it turns out that all of this was a ploy in order to get some time. Jayden helped Yi-han get Jun-hwan out in a chopper.

It turns out that Jayden and Yi-han had already planned this and it was a way for Jayden to bet on Yi-han. The latter tells Jin-gi to give up, up he points at his arm and tells him to try to operate on him – he will have fun watching the aftermath.

As Jun-hwan’s chopper reaches its destination and is taken in an ambulance, Yi-han rushes to the clinic while icing his badly hurt arm. He assures Jung-hyun that he will do a good job and save her son and is left shocked at the last moment to see Yo-sub, who has agreed to help him.

Everyone anticipates the outcome of a variety of things – Yi-han starts the surgery, Seok-yeong and Hyuk-chul get ready for his court hearing and Jayden watches on as he sees Banseok crumbling in front of him.

However, Yi-han’s hand gives him grief and just as he’s about to push through the pain, Yo-sub volunteers to do the surgery.

Doctor Lawyer episode 8 shines with its shocking twists and turns and incredible performances. Although the suave ‘doctor lawyer’ Yi-han displays not many emotions, you can see his pain, anguish and desperation in his eyes.

Plus, these characters are just so well-written, they are all on a scale of different shades of grey and more often than not are desperate in their own lives. Some, obviously, are inherently evil, some a mixture of both while others are more on the good side. Regardless, these characters and the twisty situations that they get into definitely makes you sit at the edge of your seat with excited anticipation.

Speaking about situations, I find it hard to predict which way the story will go most of the time! I almost thought Jayden stabbed Yi-han in the back but turns out he didn’t. His character, by far, is the most difficult to predict. I still can’t put my finger on whether he’s a good guy or a bad one. Is he using Yu-na or does he really love her? Who knows, but I am excited to find out.
