The stars of “The Forbidden Marriage” have bid farewell to the drama!
Based on the web novel of the same name, “The Forbidden Marriage” is a romance drama starring Kim Young Dae as King Yi Heon, who falls deep into despair after the death of his wife (played by IZ*ONE‘s Kim Min Ju) and ends up prohibiting marriage in his kingdom. Seven years after the loss of his wife, who was then the crown princess, he comes across a con artist named So Rang (Park Ju Hyun) who claims that she can be possessed by the late princess’ spirit.
“The Forbidden Marriage” aired its finale on January 21 amidst the ongoing Lunar New Year holiday and achieved an average nationwide rating of 4.7 percent – its highest-ever Saturday ratings. Following the show’s final episode, main cast members Park Ju Hyun, Kim Young Dae, and Kim Woo Seok shared their concluding comments and chose their favorite scenes from the drama.
First, Park Ju Hyun chose the scene in the final episode where So Rang stepped forward to face the Queen. The actress recalled filming this scene, sharing, “My heart felt heavy while acting out the image of So Rang walking in her wedding dress after persevering through such a difficult journey.”
She continued, “Thanks to the character of So Rang, I was able to be with many people I’ve grown very fond of. Just like the cheerful love I’ve received for ‘The Forbidden Marriage,’ I hope everyone can have a good laugh through our project.”
On the most memorable scene, Kim Young Dae picked Episode 3 where Yi Heon, So Rang, and Lee Shin Won (Kim Woo Seok) ride horses together on their way to the hunting grounds. He additionally chose the scene where Yi Heon falls for So Rang’s trick and the two shout “bang, bang, bang” together. These scenes were crucial moments that showed the characters as three unique friends with close chemistry, as opposed to a King and his servants.
Kim Young Dae commented, “It feels so regretful to send off the character of Yi Heon who I feel fond of. The time I spent crying and laughing with Yi Heon was that much more worthwhile as it was with you all.”
The scene in Episode 8 where Lee Shin Won gets poisoned and regrets his past was the most memorable for Kim Woo Seok. On his favorite line, the actor chose “That’s why I’ll keep this feeling hidden well. I’ll suppress it and keep it in so that it doesn’t show.” He explained, “These words were very fitting of Shin Won and I thought they were words that clearly showed his situation.”
Kim Woo Seok then shared, “I was so happy to have met the character of Shin Won. As much as I did my best while filming from the summer to the cold winter, I hope that you do not forget Shin Won even after the show has concluded.”
