Night Has Come episode 12 picks up with Da-bum about to stab Jung-won. However, an announcement rents the air, clarifying that mafias can’t kill each other. Jung-won urges Da-bum not to violate the rules and uses pepper spray on him. This allows her time to run away and shut the door behind her. She informs Da-bum to wait it out for the next 30 minutes.
D-bum stays in the freezer for a while and hallucinates as the hypothermia gets to him. He takes it out on the body he thought belonged to Yoon-seo but is surprised to discover it is Na-hee. It turns out that Jung-won hid Yoon-seo elsewhere and didn’t hurt Jun-hee, as she led us to believe.
Jung-won then takes Yoon-seo’s phone to her and places it beside her sleeping body.
The following morning, Yoon-seo and Jun-hee wake up. Yoon-seo finds Jung-won and confronts her. The betrayal is too much for Yoon-seo; she wishes she was dead instead. However, Jung-won has no time to explain further and says she needs to find Da-bum, who has escaped. Jun-hee arrives and overhears their conversation. He lashes out at Jung-won, but Yoon-seo stops her.
Jung-woon leaves to find Da-bum while Jun-hee asks Yoon-seo to wait in her room when he handles business. He argues they must vote Da-bum out and kill Jung-won to win the game. Yoon-seo is not convinced but agrees to hang back and lock her door. Jung-won alerts them through a message that Da-bum is coming for them and they should be careful.
She continues to check the perimeter while Yon-seo finds a gift box in her bag. Jung-won left her a USB to help explain things. Once Yoon-seo opens the files, she realises that Jung-won is not real but a game character. She is there to represent Se-eun, her former best friend. They used to be so close and even exchanged birthday gifts.
Jung-won runs into Jun-hee, and they start bickering since the latter no longer trusts her. As they talk, they receive a message from Da-bum asking them to come to the rooftop if they want to save Yoon-seo. He got to her when she was in her room. She must have opened the door for her, thinking he is Jun-hee.
On the rooftop, Da-bum orders Jung-won to jump to her death if she wants to save Yoon-seo. However, Jung-won asks for assurance that he won’t hurt the remaining two citizens. A fight ensues as Yoon-seo tries to break free. Jun-hee jumps in and takes Da-bum down. They struggle for a while, but Jun-hee is overpowered and hit with a stone on the head.
Meanwhile, Jung-won frees Yoon-seo’s hands and tries to help her stand. Da-bum moves to stab Jung-won, but Yoon-seo intervenes and is stabbed in her abdomen. Jun-hee wakes up and fights Da-bum again. This time, he kills him.
After Da-bum’s death, Yoon-seo confesses that she knows Jung-won’s true identity and apologises. She asks Jung-won to put a stop to the game and passes out. Jung-won decides to jump to her death, and by default, Jun-hee wins the game as a citizen.
Yoon-seo wakes up in a strange place that almost looks like a laboratory. She sees the other students trapped in a machine, too. They are still in the game. A man appears and warns her not to wake up the other students.
Se-eun’s parents created the game after their daughter killed herself. They blame the students for what happened to Se-eun. Her image was used to create a fake, sexy video and then spread around the school. Da-bum was the video’s creator and was threatened to share the video. No one believed Se-eun to be innocent, and So-mi and her gang doubled down on bullying her. Yoon-seo didn’t know about the video and regrets it now.
The parents want revenge and tell Yoon-seo that the students have played the game so many times. This is the first time Jung-won helped them. Se-eun’s mom woke Yoon-seo to find out how she managed that feat. Typically, the mafias win the game.
Yoon-seo begs them to stop or at least allow her to take responsibility and let the others go. However, Se-eun’s parents refuse and warn her that she is not fully awake and she shouldn’t fight it or she will get sick. Soon, Yoon-seo passes out as she begs Se-eun’s parents for mercy, and they connect her back to the machine.
Se-eun’s parents want the kids to relive the pain and suffering in every game. They wipe out the students’ memories before a new game, intent on making the kids suffer and see no hope for them. The dad, on the other hand, argues that Jung-won intentionally gave Yoon-seo her memories to put a stop to the game.
Yoon-seo returns to the game with her memories intact. The students are on their way to the centre, and she relaxes for a while when she no longer sees Jung-won. However, she turns to look at Kyung-joon’s gang in the back and spots Jung-won. Jung-won gives a stern stare, and Yoon-seo starts freaking out.
Jung-won, being a game character, explains a few things. In the first episode, she was installing a bug for this loop to put an end to the game. When she said she had no choice, she really meant it, the game was created for her to win every time.
To think they have played this game repeatedly and gone through these emotions each time is wild. At this point, Yoon-seo’s having her memories is more of a curse since she will remember every game, and we have no idea if they ever get out.
While bullying is wrong, Se-eun’s parents took revenge on another level. They used the game to punish the students for what they did. However, some students were innocent. What makes Se-eun’s parents different from the bullies? I doubt Se-eun created this game with such intentions. Out of curiosity, I can’t help but wonder if the student’s parents are looking for them.
Se-eun’s parents talked about the aftereffects of the game; even when Yoon-seo woke up, she was bleeding. This makes us wonder if they will have any side effects if they are ever saved.
Night Has Come has proven to be a gripping masterpiece from start to finish. The writers kept us on our toes, and we had fun developing many theories. The cast portrayed their characters incredibly and carried the show well. It is a pity that the show has ended, but we are grateful we got to enjoy it.
Who were your favourite characters? Were you rooting for Yoon-seo and Jun-hee too? Kindly let us know in the comments; we always look forward to hearing from you.
