Lee Jung Jae’s agency has refuted the rumors that the actor was involved in the casting of “Squid Game 2.”
Previously on the morning of June 29, Netflix released an additional cast lineup for Season 2 of “Squid Game” including Park Gyu Young, Jo Yu Ri, and Won Ji An, T.O.P, Lee Jin Wook, David Lee, Noh Jae Won, and Kang Ae Sim.
Amongst the new cast members, the presence of former BIGBANG member T.O.P drew viewers’ attention. When T.O.P’s return to the small screen through “Squid Game 2” was announced, speculation rose that lead actor Lee Jung Jae might have helped his return as the two have been known to be close friends for a long time.
In response to the reports, Lee Jung Jae’s agency Artist Company released the following statement:
"We would like to express our position regarding the reports about actor Lee Jung Jae’s involvement in the casting of “Squid Game 2.”
Some of the reports that claim actor Lee Jung Jae was involved in the casting of “Squid Game 2” are not true. The casting of a project is the authority of the director and the production company. In particular, actor Lee Jung Jae understands more than anyone that due to the great interest in “Squid Game 2,” many actors work hard to make an appearance, and [the cast members] are decided through audition.
Accordingly, we would like to reiterate that it is not true that actor Lee Jung Jae was involved in the casting of “Squid Game 2.”"
“Squid Game 2” is set to kick off filming in the second half of 2023.
