Kim Hye-soo offered lead role in drama turned down by Song Hye-kyo

Award-winning actress Kim Hye-soo is in talks to star in Hyena, an upcoming drama from Jang Tae-yoo—the director of hit series My Love From The Star and Tree With Deep Roots.

“Hyena is one of the projects that Kim Hye-soo is reviewing,” her agency HODU&U Entertainment stated on July 30.

The new drama centers on lawyers who work for the top 1% of the richest people in society. It is described as an atypical character-driven legal drama in which the law is used as a “weapon of survival.”

Kim Hye-soo’s label did not disclose the details of the casting offer but the actress was reportedly courted to play the lead role that was first offered to Song Hye-kyo (Encounter), who eventually decided not to take the project. The character is named Jung Geum-ja, a “true hyena” who does not hesitate to cross the boundaries between right and wrong in order to survive and succeed.

If Kim Hye-soo accepts the role, Hyena will become her first drama in three years. She was last seen playing the lead in the Baeksang award-winning crime thriller Signal (2016).
