JTBC has just revealed the panel of judges who will be overseeing the new idol survival program “Peak Time“!
It was previously announced that Lee Seung Gi will be hosting the new program, which will be a team competition. Teams will battle for the chance to become the next “worldwide idol group,” and its contestants will consist of male idols who have already debuted, whether currently active or part of a disbanded group.
On December 20, JTBC made viewers even more excited as they revealed the judges who will be following and watching the contestants throughout their journey. Lee Seung Gi will be joined by Super Junior’s Kyuhyun and WINNER’s Song Mino. Kyuhyun and Song Mino previously appeared as junior panelists on “Sing Again,” another survival program that Lee Seung Gi was also the MC of, so there is much anticipation for Kyuhyun’s and Song Mino’s appearances as official judges on “Peak Time.”
A producer of the show commented, “We put a lot of effort into forming the judging panel. And since this is Korea’s first audition show that is being conducted via teams, viewers can look forward to seeing judging that evaluates the overall potential of the team that goes beyond the individuals as evaluated by eight [judges] with different colors.”
Other celebrities who will be joining Kyuhyun and Song Mino as judges are Jay Park, Girls’ Generation’s Tiffany, Highlight’s Lee Gikwang, and INFINITE’s Kim Sungkyu, who will go beyond just the role of judges and act as mentors to the contestants as well. Jay Park, after seeing the competing teams’ performances, said, “I don’t know why these gems haven’t been able to see the light until now,” and he expressed his desire to start an idol group at the new label he founded earlier this year.
Performance director Shim Jae Won, who is the master of performance at SM Entertainment, having worked with groups such as SHINee, EXO, aespa, and TVXQ, will also be a judge for “Peak Time.” Viewers can look forward to Shim Jae Won adding an entirely new level of depth to the judging process given his extensive background and experiences. Finally, producer Ryan Jhun will be joining the panelist as the eight judge.
“Peak Time” is currently slated to premiere in the first half of 2023.
