The cast of “Oasis” has said goodbye to the recently concluded drama!
KBS’s “Oasis” is a drama about three youths who fight fiercely to protect their dreams, friendships, and first love against the turbulent backdrop of South Korea from 1980 to 1990. The drama aired its finale on April 25, which recorded its personal best in viewership ratings with an average of 9.7 percent.
To thank viewers and bid farewell to the drama, cast members Jang Dong Yoon, Seol In Ah, Chu Young Woo, and Oh My Girl’s Seunghee all shared concluding comments!
Jang Dong Yoon shared, “I feel especially empty and more regretful. Although there’s the regret of wishing I acted better, this is also a special project that makes me think that I should’ve loved [my character] Doo Hak’s life more.”
The actor explained that there are were so many great scenes, but the most memorable are the ones he filmed with his on-screen parents So Hee Jung and Kim Myung Soo. Jang Dong Yoon elaborated, “When I acted with my mother and father, I was so immersed into my emotions that I’d cry even during rehearsals, so the scenes I did with them remain in my heart.”
Looking to the future, Jang Dong Yoon discussed different genres and characters he wants to eventually try out. “I want to try the role of a father with a young child,” Jang Dong Yoon revealed. “I want to act out memories with one’s children, like films ‘After Sun’ and ‘The Whale.’ There are tons of roles I want to try, including a hot-blooded and righteous reporter or lawyer who deals with societal issues, a vicious villain, a country man who foolishly loves his friend like the main character in ‘The Banshees of Inisherin,’ a young man with the soul of an old man, an entrepreneur’s success story that is based on a true story, and many more.”
Finally, Jang Dong Yoon commented to “Oasis” viewers, “Thank you for loving Doo Hak’s life even more than myself. Although it’s regretful that the time to leave has come, I will greet you again with another good image.”
Seol In Ah starred as Oh Jung Shin, who gets caught in a heated love triangle between Lee Doo Hak and Choi Chul Woong (Chu Young Woo). The actress shared, “Through ‘Oasis’ and the character of Oh Jung Shin, it was interesting to learn how to protect youth and love the way it was back then. I am thankful to have met this project.” She continued, “I hope this project remains as a serene oasis in viewers’ hearts. Please be happy and healthy.”
Chu Young Woo began, “For starters, thank you so much to the viewers who watched and loved ‘Oasis’ up until now. As this was my first time doing a period drama and I thought of it as an opportunity to showcase another new image that I have yet to show with the character of Chul Woong, I put in a lot of preparation and effort even before the project began. I will remember this project as one I poured a lot of energy into in order to convincingly capture my character’s individuality and of course, practice my dialect.”
The actor continued, “We filmed for about eight months since last summer and I want to thank everyone who helped us wrap up the project well with everyone healthy and no issues, as well as the seniors, colleagues, and staff members who were on set with me. I was able to learn a lot on set too and this was a fun set where I was able to experience the ’80s and ’90s while expressing a character of that time.” He concluded, “Please remember ‘Oasis’ for a long, long time and I will work hard to seek you out with another new project and character.”
In her first-ever role in a drama from a major broadcasting station, Oh My Girl’s Seunghee portrayed Ham Yang Ja, the best friend of Oh Jung Shin. She commented, “‘Oasis’ has already concluded, but I was happy to have given people a bit of joy as Yang Ja. This project was that much more meaningful as it was my first drama series and I received so much love and interest that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forget this time in my life. Thank you so much. I hope there are always sunny oases in the lives of the many people who loved our ‘Oasis.'”
