On April 12, a representative from SBS confirmed that “Starting Today, We” (literal translation) will be premiering in May as previously announced.
Earlier this month, JTBC News reported that MBC and SBS are in conflict due to SBS’s plans to air Im Soo Hyang’s upcoming drama “Starting Today, We” in May when MBC is already planning to air its own drama starring Im Soo Hyang titled “Dr. Lawyer” that same month on May 27.
In response to the report, a representative from MBC had stated, “Even when taking into consideration the unfortunate programming situation at SBS, their decision is still a breach of business ethics,” explaining that it would be inconvenient and damaging to promote both shows at the same time. However, a source from SBS responded, “As the days of the week and time slots in which the drama will air are different and because the subject matter of the two dramas is completely different as well, we do not think there will be any problems.”
“Dr. Lawyer,” which will also star So Ji Sub, is about a genius surgeon who becomes a medical malpractice lawyer after losing everything due to a rigged surgery and a prosecutor who loses her only family and lover through that same surgery. The drama is currently scheduled to premiere on May 27.
Meanwhile, “Starting Today, We” is a Korean remake of the famous American rom-com “Jane the Virgin,” which is also based on a hit Venezuelan telenovela. The story follows a woman named Oh Woo Ri (Im Soo Hyang) who is strictly maintaining her chastity before marriage but ends up carrying the child of a cosmetic group’s CEO Raphael (Sung Hoon) after an accident occurs during a medical exam.
“Starting Today, We” will premiere on May 9 at 10 p.m. KST.
