It’s official: Han Suk Kyu will be starring in the upcoming MBC drama “Such a Close Traitor” (working title)!
“Such a Close Traitor,” which will mark Han Suk Kyu’s first return to MBC drama after 29 years since his last appearance in “Hotel” in 1995, is a new psychological thriller that depicts the dilemma faced by Korea’s top profiler as he discovers the secret of his daughter related to a murder case he is investigating.
Named as MBC’s most anticipated project in 2024, the upcoming drama presents a multifaceted story about family dynamics, trust, suspicion, and faith. Emerging as the winning project in the 2021 MBC Drama Screenplay Contest that garnered overwhelming support from the judging panel, the series is penned by Han Ah Young and meticulously crafted over three years under the auspices of MBC’s drama development team.
Han Suk Kyu will portray Jang Tae Soo, the best profiler in South Korea and a devoted single father to his only daughter. Opting for a career in crime behavior analysis during an era when the concept of profiling was unfamiliar, Jang Tae Soo gained unparalleled respect and trust within the police organization. However, when an unexpected event challenges his professional beliefs and strains his bond with his beloved daughter, he struggles to uncover the truth to protect his most beloved daughter.
Directed by Song Yeon Hwa, known for her work on MBC dramas such as “The Red Sleeve” and “Hunted,” “Such a Close Traitor” is scheduled to air in the latter half of 2024 as part of MBC’s Friday-Saturday drama lineup. Stay tuned for further updates!
