“12.12: The Day” is officially the biggest box office hit since “The Roundup: No Way Out”!
On December 5—just two days after it surpassed 4 million moviegoers—the Korean Film Council announced that as of 3 p.m. KST, “12:12 The Day” had already reached a total of 5 million moviegoers. The film was originally released on November 22, meaning that it took less than two weeks to hit the 5 million mark.
Notably, “12:12: The Day” is the first Korean film released in winter to surpass 5 million moviegoers since the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020. It is also the fastest film to reach the milestone since this year’s smash hit “The Roundup: No Way Out,” which ultimately drew over 10.6 million moviegoers this summer.
Starring Hwang Jung Min, Jung Woo Sung, Lee Sung Min, and more, “12.12: The Day” is a historical film about the real-life military coup that shook South Korea following the assassination of President Park Chung Hee in 1979.
In honor of the film’s new achievement, the stars of “12.12: The Day” came together to film a video thanking audiences for their love. Check it out below!
