FIFTY FIFTY’s agency has responded to reports that the group will no longer be filming a music video for their upcoming song for the “Barbie” soundtrack.
As previously announced back in May, FIFTY FIFTY will be releasing a new song called “Barbie Dreams” for the soundtrack of the highly-anticipated Hollywood film “Barbie.” While the group was originally scheduled to film a music video for the song as well, Korean news outlet Ilgan Sports reported on July 4 that the plans had fallen through due to FIFTY FIFTY’s ongoing dispute with their agency.
Later that evening, ATTRAKT officially responded to the report by confirming, “It’s true that at present, we have been unable to film a music video for the ‘Barbie’ OST. Member Aran was sick and had to undergo surgery, and she needed about two months to recover, so we were unable to schedule a shoot for the music video. But then the current situation happened, so it became difficult [for us to film a music video].”
Last week, FIFTY FIFTY belatedly revealed that they had filed to suspend their exclusive contracts with their agency ATTRAKT on June 19, though they did not announce it to the press until June 28.
On June 23, ATTRAKT first announced to the press that they had become aware of a third party persuading FIFTY FIFTY to illegally violate their exclusive contracts with the agency, and four days later, they filed criminal charges against The Givers CEO Ahn Sung Il/SIAHN (who was previously in charge of producing FIFTY FIFTY’s music) for fraud, breach of duty, and obstruction of business.
While Warner Music Korea initially denied allegations that they had been involved in approaching FIFTY FIFTY about violating their contracts with ATTRAKT to sign with another agency, on July 3, ATTRAKT released an audio recording from May 9 in which an executive director at Warner Music Korea asks ATTRAKT CEO Jeon Hong Joon about a 20 billion won (approximately $15.3 million) buyout that he had already discussed with The Givers CEO Ahn Sung Il.
Meanwhile, ATTRAKT also announced on July 4 that FIFTY FIFTY’s scheduled appearance at KCON LA 2023 had been cancelled “due to the internal circumstances that have been recently reported in the media.” The group was originally scheduled to perform at the event on August 19.
According to the report by Ilgan Sports, FIFTY FIFTY was also previously scheduled to film two large-scale advertisements, including one with a famous sports star, and to appear on a popular variety show—all of which have now fallen through.
