Episode 2 of Death’s Game Part 2 starts with Yee-jae at the slaughter table, with Tae-u delighted with his work. Gyu-cheol’s amputated body parts scatter all over the floor, but he is still alive on the table. Tae-u asks again if he thought he would win against him, and he says that he already has. Yee-jae mentions the memory of the housekeeper’s son that Tae-u almost killed, and he tells him that he was one of his brothers before he died.
At the gates of hell, Death realises that Yee-jae got himself killed on purpose. Yee-jae says he will make Tae-u pay for his sins since God decided that the rich do not get retribution. Death warns him that Death does not always follow a predetermined plan before sending him to his next life.
Yee-jae’s next body is the detective who stood watch as Tae-u humiliated his partner. Yee-jae’s new body is of An Ji-hyeong, a 42-year-old detective whose father died on duty as a police officer. Ji-hyeong becomes a police officer like his father, but his mother gets sick, worrying that he will be in danger, too. Therefore, he promises to always stay out of dangerous situations, which turns him into a pathetic detective looked down on by his colleagues who think he is a selfish wimp. His mother recently passed away, and all he has left is the cold disdain of his colleagues. Yee-jae also sees the memory where he stands by as Tae-u humiliates his partner.
As if fate is playing a trick on him, the first person he sees on the streets is the one who killed him, Cho Tae-sang, Kim Ji-young. Ji-young threatens another man on the streets about his 100 million, and Yee-jae intervenes. He gets Ji-young to confess on camera to killing Tae-sang and easily subdues him when he comes at him with the knife. Ji-hyeong becomes an overnight online sensation, much to the bewilderment of his colleagues. Even the team leader wonders if he has had life insurance lately. The team leader calls Ji-hyeong’s partner and learns that Ji-hyeong is heading to a serial killer’s house, which happens to be Gyu-cheol’s studio. Meanwhile, Tae-u is still not over the high of killing Gyu-cheol at the studio, and he invites his secretary to accompany him to dinner at a secret spot. The secretary agrees, thinking that Tae-u is flirting with her.
Yee-jae exposes Gyu-cheol’s studio but not before transferring Tae-u’s evidence to a flash drive and erasing the files. However, his partner secretly sees him. The police locked down the area, and as expected, Tae-u drove by with his secretary in the car. Yee-jae stops them, and Tae-u recognises him. However, their interactions, including the detective asking for his secretary’s name and saying she might go missing, make Tae-u suspicious and angry. He calls the cleaners, who report that they took care of Gyu-cheol’s body and offer to take care of Ji-hyeong, too. Meanwhile, Yee-jae gives the flash drive to a reporter, and the police chief applauds the officers for cracking a major case.
Ji-hyeong’s partner asks to talk to him outside about the files he saw him delete at the studio. Yee-jae does not hide the fact and tells him about Park Tae-u murdering Gyu-cheol. He says that he deleted the files because he knew they would be buried if the police found them, and he intends to make Tae-u pay for his crimes. Suddenly, Yee-jae’s mother arrives at the hospital, and Ji-hyeong’s partner tells him that she is under investigation for the money she received from Tae-sang before he is found dead on the streets. Yee-jae regrets that he can never do anything right, even after his Death.
He waits outside the office to talk to his mother and gets emotional when he sees her wearing the shows he bought her. Yee-jae wants to know why she reported the money instead of keeping it, and she says that receiving the money felt like a punishment for his heavens. She could not protect her son; the money was exchanged for his life. She chose not to keep it since her son’s life is worth more than any money in the world. Yee-jae decides to take a different approach and sends her food. He watches from a distance as she takes the food into the house and is on the way out when someone suddenly attacks him.
Park Tae-u arrives at his father’s office and finds the information he has been digging out on him. He sees CCTV images of the night he killed Lee Ji-su and ends up threatening his father for it. He then drives out and furiously kills another driver on the road before bragging about it in church, saying that God is an illusion and both salvation and judgment are his to give.
Tae-u receives a tip-off from one of his paid police officers that Ji-hyeong has a video of him killing Gyu-cheol, and he plans to air it tonight. Tae-u calls the cleaner to ask if he cares for Ji-hyeong, and the person who answers is Ji-hyeong. In a flashback, Ji-hyeong easily subdued the man sent to kill him. Tae-u suggests a meet-up, but Ji-hyeong wants them to meet at the police station. Later, Ji-hyeong is called to the commissioner’s office. He runs into a familiar man outside and meets with Park Tae-u.
Tae-u wants to make a deal as long as Ji-hyeong looks the other way, but Yee-jae does not have any of it. He glares deep into Tae-u’s eyes and tells him that what he wants is to make him learn that he is not a god but a crazed lunatic. Tae-u tries to intimidate him by insinuating that he will be killed, but Ji-hyeong does not show an ounce of fear. He walks out, telling Tae-u to meet him in 30 minutes at the office. His lawyer walks in and tells Tae-u that he will ask someone called Detective Lee to take care of Ji-hyeong.
Back in the office, other detectives receive weird calls and slowly head outside the room, leaving Ji-hyeong alone waiting for the news report. However, the news that airs is not what Yee-jae is expecting. Park Tae-u turns himself in for killing Gyu-cheol and becomes like a hero who saved the country. The footage shown on the television is of Tae-u arriving at Gyu-cheol’s studio tied up, proving that he was kidnapped, but it does not show him killing Gyu-cheol. The news reporter suggests that the serial killer might be alive while the police drop all charges against Tae-u. The country is in uproar, supporting Park Tae-u and claiming he is innocent. Tae-u is released while Ji-hyeong and his team leader are fired. Police officers kidnap Ji-hyeong at the parking lot under Tae-u’s orders, and he asks them to keep him alive until he returns from a business trip in the United States.
However, everything that happened was following Yee-jae’s plan. Using the memories of the bodies he had earlier taken over, he manages to expose Park Tae-u’s evil doings to the public and plants a bomb on the plane. However, he gives Tae-u a chance to save himself by providing a parachute with a tracker inside. Once Tae-u jumps from the exploding plane and lands on the ground, Yee-jae hits him with a car and tries to kill him. Death intervenes, but Ji-su’s pen falls from the detective’s pocket, making Yee-jae change his mind. When Tae-u seizes an opportunity to kill the detective, a song wind gushes and the parachute pulls him into an oncoming track.
The episode brings another amazing character into the picture. Detective Ji-hyeong is full of wits; daring, brave, and creative. Watching his smirks as Tae-u played right into his plan was so satisfying. The ending of this episode implies that Yee-jae might have survived in the detective’s body. Will he continue to live as the detective, or is another unexpected twist waiting for us?
This chapter also mentioned people who think they are gods and are entitled to salvation and judgment. As a detective, Yee-jae showed one of these people that they are nothing more than a crazy lunatic going around killing people. Is Death’s objective to use Detective Ji-hyeong to help deal with people who disregard lives like Park Tae-u? With two more episodes, another twist might be in the waiting, and we will find out in the next chapter.
