Call It Love (2023) Recap Episode 3

Mar 3, 2023

Call It Love episode 3 starts with Hee-ja asking Dong-jin and Sun-woo to give her money back. Sun-woo tries to appeal to her, saying that they need some more time, but Hee-ja’s shameless insistence results in Dong-jin agreeing with her, and he further mentions that he is not comfortable with the situation anyway. When the two men leave, Hee-ja calls Dong-jin weak-minded, just like his father.

Back to the incident from the last episode, after pushing Ju-ho to the ground, Woo-joo tells him that if he tries to use violence once more, she will call the police. After she walks off, Dong-jin and Sun-woo take Ju-ho out for drinks, and the three of them make up for past mistakes and misunderstandings. Ju-ho further asks Dong-jin to treat Woo-joo to a good meal for how she helped him.

In a later conversation with Sun-woo, Dong-jin tells him that he saw Young-min with Sung-man that morning, which takes Sun-woo by surprise. The two talk about how the closest to them sometimes betray them the worst, and Dong-jin shares about his relationship with his mother and her several marriages.

Either way, it’s time for Woo-joo to go back to work, and she tries to fight the anxiety and then hilariously gets followed by Yoon Jun, who is determined to find out where she works.  Exhausted after running for a long time, Yoon Jun agrees to make a deal with Woo-joo and tells her that she needs to finish her business at the company in one week and then work at the pharmacy again. He threatens to call her mother if she refuses to listen to him.

In return, Woo-joo threatens never to see him again if he calls her, and he agrees to end the relationship if she doesn’t stop with the unhealthy obsession. The confession takes Woo-joo by surprise, and she is left baffled.

At work, Dong-jin thanks Woo-joo for helping him the other day and then helps her settle into work when the others try to bully her. Things become awkward when Young-min walks into the office, and Sun-woo all but tells him that they know what he has done. Young-min, however, is more interested to know why Woo-joo is back in the office, and he tells him that Woo-joo will be working with the business team from then on.

When Woo-joo enters the office, Dong-jin asks her to stay back, and she closes the blinds, realising that Dong-jin’s aim is to torment Young-min. However, when Dong-jin truly asks her for help to keep an eye on Young-min, she refuses to give in and denies his request, although she does seem moved by his words.

The next day, Sun-woo comes across Min-young at golf, and their conversation makes it clear that they share a close bond. Meanwhile, Young-min bullies Woo-joo for leaving a file on his desk, and Woo-joo immediately calls her out on it. Unfortunately, though, she keeps the truth to herself and chooses to apologise to him instead of letting the truth slip.

Dong-jin ends up following Woo-joo to a restaurant after coming across her by chance. Woo-joo continues to be standoffish towards Dong-jin and eventually tells him that she won’t spy on Young-min since he is rude and disloyal and they don’t like each other. She questions why he tolerates someone like him on the team, to which Dong-jin tells her that he let his girlfriend cheat on him for a year – he just has a lot of patience.

After lunch, an unsuspecting Woo-joo is shocked to learn that Hee-ja is in Dong-jin’s office. She is taken aback, but agrees to make the coffee for her. Meanwhile, Hee-ja delivers the news of her new relationship to Dong-jin, who seems to be done with his mother. Expecting a shocking face-off, Woo-joo stares at Hee-ja after delivering the coffee but is left utterly baffled when it turns out that Hee-ja doesn’t remember her at all.

Frustrated, Woo-joo point blank asks her whether she knows her or not. Hee-ja still isn’t able to recollect her, and Woo-joo only thinks about the day she lost her father and her house to Hee-ja. She tells her that she shouldn’t talk down on people whom she doesn’t know, and after she leaves, a frustrated Dong-jin asks Hee-ja to leave as well, further asking her not to come to his office anymore.

Seeing Hee-ja with her new man, a fuming Woo-joo thinks back to the day she found out about her father’s affair, and it looks like she’s ready to unleash hell on the two. And just like when she was a kid, she almost jumps in front of Hee-ja’s car but rethinks the decision at the last moment.

On her way back to the office, Woo-joo gives Dong-jin a piece of her mind for no reason and insults him for constantly apologising. Either way, as the day ends, she follows Young-min to the parking lot and tells him that Dong-jin knows what he did and that if he really wants to destroy the company, he should really try harder.

Call It Love Episode 3 Review

I am not sure whether we are supposed to feel sympathy for the leads in this series, but with the way things are going, unlike Dong-jin, my patience is really running thin. The series is just a lot of emotions wrapped in two unstable and uninteresting characters.

Sure, trauma really changes who you are as a person. But the way these two leads behave is just mind-numbingly annoying. I have no patience left for Woo-joo, who can’t differentiate right from wrong. She can’t see the truth or wait to find out everything before making a silly decision. Her past mistakes prove that her father’s affair broke her in some way, but seriously, as an adult, you’d expect her to make smarter decisions.

On the other hand, Dong-jin is too bland a character to feel anything for. I just don’t know what his endgame is. Like, with Young-min, are they just going to keep losing clients by keeping Young-min around? Is he going to do anything about it, or will he just let him do whatever and make someone else spy on the spy? As stupid as it sounds, it’s sort of stupider to watch.

However, the worst part of this K-drama is, apparently, that the editing team forgot to colour-correct the mess. The colour grading is absolutely horrendous.  Whether it was a deliberate choice or not, the series is giving me a headache just with this hideous violet tinge that comes and goes randomly. I really don’t even know what is going on in the series at this point.
