Avid basketball fan BTS’ Suga is the new global ambassador for the National Basketball Association (NBA)!
On April 6, the NBA announced alongside BTS’s agency BIGHIT MUSIC that Suga had been named an ambassador for the North American professional basketball league. The NBA is one of the major professional sports leagues in Canada and the United States and is considered the premier league in the world for men’s professional basketball.
For the remainder of the 2022-2023 NBA season and moving forward, Suga will help engage basketball fans around the world as an ambassador. He will partake in various league initiatives, such as promotions, events, and attending NBA games in the United States and Asia.
The NBA will also collaborate with Suga for his upcoming solo activities that will be in full swing later this month, including his first-ever solo tour as Agust D and the release of his first official solo album “D-DAY.”
On being an ambassador, Suga commented, “Music and basketball have been shared passions of mine since my youth, and it’s a dream to be named an NBA Ambassador.” He added, “I’m excited to formalize my relationship with the NBA, and I can’t wait to share some exciting collaborations I have planned with the league over the coming months.”
Mark Tatum, NBA Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer, shared, “We’re thrilled to join forces with Suga – a superstar musician, fashion icon, and passionate NBA fan.” He continued, “We look forward to working with Suga to bring the same excitement he engenders from his global fanbase in support of our continued efforts to grow our brand.”
The NBA also took to social media to unveil an adorable clip of Suga personally announcing this new partnership. After introducing himself, Suga proudly shares, “I’ve become an NBA Global Ambassador. As I have really liked basketball since I was young, I personally think of this as an honor. In the future too, I will showcase lots of new things with the NBA. Thank you.”
Last September, Suga attended a pre-season NBA game between the Washington Wizards and Golden State Warriors for the NBA Japan Games. During Suga’s visit, the Warriors shared tons of content of his meetings with stars like Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green.
While sitting courtside at this game, Suga also met tennis champion Naomi Osaka, who shared a cute clip of their interaction and revealed that she took the chance to show love for BTS’s “Autumn Leaves,” a fan-favorite B-side that Suga composed and produced.
Most recently, Suga attended an NBA game in Los Angeles between the Lakers and Dallas Mavericks. On April 7, Suga will drop “People Pt.2,” his upcoming “D-DAY” pre-release track that features IU. On April 21, Suga’s solo album “D-DAY” will be released alongside his new documentary that will capture his album producing process.
