Bo Ra! Deborah (2023) Episode 5

True to Love Episode 5 is titled ‘A Cold Is Incurable’ and explores the heartbreak after breaking off a long relationship with someone you planned your whole life with. Also known as Bo-ra! Deborah (보라! 데보라) is the latest romantic comedy-drama series on Amazon Prime Video. Co-directed by Lee Tae-gon and Seo Min-jeong, the K-Drama is developed by KT Studio Genie from a screenplay written by Ah Kyung. Broadcasted on ENA, it is produced by Lee Tae-gon, Lee Soo-yeon, Oh Nam-seok and Heo Min-ho.

The ensemble cast of the show includes Yoo In-na as Yeon Bo-ra/Deborah, Yoon Hyun-min as Lee Su-hyeok, Joo Sang-wook as Han Sang-jin, Hwang Chan-sung as Noh Ju-wan, Park So-jin as Lee Yu-jeong, Koo Jun-hoe as Yang Jin-ho, Kim Ye-ji as Yeon Bo-mi, Lee Sang-woon as Yang Jin-woo, Song Min-ji as Su-jin, Kim Ji-an as Yu-ri, and Park Ri-won as Da-mi.

After letting all her emotions out while walking around the city, Bo-ra finds herself in a better place. She realizes that people are busy living their lives and not everyone is talking bad about her. This fact comforts her to go around, without feeling anxious. However, the peace is very short-lived as her column is published in La Bella magazine, which was written before any of the tragic events happened.

With Blackpink on the cover, the magazine sells out quickly & even Deborah’s new column is taken in a good light by everyone. They read how she was about to get married and thus empathise with her, rather than talking badly. But it somewhat takes Bo-ra back to her previous memories when she was planning to get married soon.

To distract herself, she takes the jacket back to Su-hyeok’s office, which he had given to her at the Golden Night event when she went off the rails. There she overhears the conversation between Sang-jin & him, where they want to get the contract done with Bo-ra, while Su-hyeok is reminding his partner how much he badmouthed her, after the event.

Just then Bang U-ri comes asking about her identity & Bo-ra gives the jacket with a cake to her. After getting to know that she heard all they were saying, Su-hyeok goes out to look for her & when he isn’t able to find her, he waits at a cafe near the house to meet. He sincerely apologises to her, however, Ju-wan also steps into the cafe with a client.

Seeing her ex-boyfriend out of nowhere, Bo-ra’s emotions overwhelm her & she starts tearing up. However, she asks Su-hyeok to pretend as if they are having a fun conversation. While Ju-wan is seen staring at them constantly. They keep up the act & decide to walk out together, leading to Bo-ra walking into a chicken shop & ordering the special menu in frustration.

Not being able to understand why they were eating chicken, it strikes his mind that it’s her way of taking revenge by eating at her ex-boyfriend’s competitive company franchise. After witnessing her go through so much, Su-hyeok tries to comfort her by sharing about his own breakup with Yu-ri & how he found her with another man. He compares all the heartbreak with a cold that will get better before we know it.

But little did he know that Bo-ra catches a cold for real & in her illness she decides to get drunk & sulk in the pain. In her drunk state, she starts to feel bad about herself & thinking about her good times with Ju-wan. She starts wondering if he feels regretful as well, to let her go. Meanwhile, Su-hyeok is seen at the Han River, trying to throw away the ring he bought, but isn’t able to. Rather he sees Ju-wan with a girl.

When he goes back to his car, Bo-ra calls him up crying & when she doesn’t get the answer she was looking for, she decides to walk up to the ex-boyfriend’s house. Ju-wan comes back from his date to see a drunk & dishevelled Bo-ra wanting to forget everything & go back to how they were. She was trying to make herself believe that it was all just a mistake & she can overlook all that.

But Ju-wan feels annoyed & tells her that he hates her, only to get slapped in return. This cues his way inside the house, leaving a distraught Bo-ra crying on the streets. On the last day, she had asked Su-hyeok to not pay attention to her if he witnesses another of her embarrassing moment but once again he turns up there & gives Bo-ra a hug.

On a brighter note, Yu-jeong and Jin-woo seem to be making efforts to keep the spark alive in their marriage and finally, Jin-ho appeared as a candidate at his restaurant. He applied there because he remembered the area where Bo-mi got off & wanted to meet her once again. Fortunately, Jin-woo & Jin-ho had quite some similarities from their family name to the military unit they served at. Due to this, he gets hired to work there.
Slowly, there is a connection building up between Bo-ra & Su-hyeok, however, it might not go so well when she realizes that it was her advice that led to his breakup. Meanwhile, the drama is pretty apt in showing how people are even ready to take back their partners despite all the bad things they do, due to the familiarity they had become used to. But as we reach the 6th episode, Bo-ra should start gearing up for post-breakup revenge, taking charge of her life.
