Portrays three people as they live on the islands of Lake Toya in Hokkaido, Hachijojima in Tokyo, and Dojima in Osaka. Maki lives near Lake Toya, and has lived as a "woman" ever since her daughter passed away. Meanwhile, Makoto is a cattle herder living on Hachijojima who is confounded when his daughter comes home pregnant. And, Reiko visits her hometown of Dojima for the funeral of her former boyfriend.
