“Incense,” the reigning champion on MBC’s “The King of Mask Singer,” took off his mask on the latest episode of the show!
On the January 21 broadcast of the MBC singing competition, Incense took the stage in an attempt to defend his throne and score his fourth consecutive win on the program.
In the final round, Incense faced off against new challenger “Rock” with a soulful cover of BOL4’s “SPACE.”
Although he moved the crowd with his performance, Incense’s three-win streak came to an end when he lost the match to his opponent.
When he finally took off his mask and revealed his identity, Incense turned out to be none other than B1A4’s main vocalist Sandeul.
Host Kim Sung Joo then asked Sandeul how it had felt competing on “The King of Mask Singer,” which marked his first singing competition following his discharge from the military last year.
“I had a lot of doubts about whether I’d be able to sing again [during my time in the military].” confessed Sandeul, who began tearing up at the memory. “[So when I won on the show,] I couldn’t believe it, and I was so happy. Because I thought to myself, ‘I’ll be able to sing again.’”
When asked about his struggles with stage fright, Sandeul shared, “Even now, I think it really isn’t easy [to stand on stage]. But wearing a mask and singing before you all, I started to find courage. So I was very happy.”
Sandeul also revealed that the stress of wanting to keep his title as champion had recently led to nightmares.
“Starting around the second week [of my reign], I began dreaming that someone was following me and chasing me,” he explained. “I kept tossing and turning, and I had a hard time sleeping.”
He added with a worried laugh, “The weight of [the crown] will probably be a huge burden to [the new champion] as well.”
