YG Reveals How Much They Spend On Each Top-Level Trainee Per Year
Nov 17, 2018
YG Entertainment has disclosed how much they spend on their highest-level trainees each year.
During the November 16 premiere of their new survival show “YG Treasure Box,” YG Entertainment introduced the contestants that make up their “Treasure A” group—seven of the agency’s top-level trainees. On average, the “Treasure A” contestants have trained at YG Entertainment for approximately four years each.
Lee Byoung Gon, a “Treasure A” trainee who previously appeared on the JTBC survival show “MIXNINE,” commented, “Because the ‘A’ team seemed closest to debuting, I was really happy when I joined the ‘A’ team.”
The show went on to reveal that YG Entertainment gives these top-level trainees “the company’s full support” by investing the most resources in their training.
Kang Yoon Jung, a member of YG Entertainment’s casting and talent development team, stated, “Because the trainees typically live in our dorms and spend most of their time here [training at the company], if you include all the minor incidental expenses, we spend at least 100 million won [approximately $89,164] on each trainee per year.”
According to YG Entertainment, that figure includes trainees’ basic meal expenses and transportation costs, as well as the costs of their various lessons—which extend beyond basic vocal and dance training to foreign language classes, acting classes, and fitness training.
“YG Treasure Box,” a new reality program that will determine the lineup of YG Entertainment’s next boy group, airs on Fridays on Naver’s V Live.
