Winners Of The 26th Chunsa Film Art Awards

On November 19, the 26th Chunsa Film Art Awards were held at CGV Cheongdam Cine City in Seoul. There was no in-person audience due to COVID-19 but the ceremony was broadcast live on YouTube.

Jo Sung Hee won Best Director for “Space Sweepers,” and said, “When I was preparing this project, I doubted whether it would really get made. I’m grateful for those had the courage to help this project be born.” He also thanked cast members Song Joong Ki, Kim Tae Ri, Jin Sun Kyu, and Yoo Hae Jin.

Jeon Do Yeon won Best Actress for “Beasts Clawing at Straws,” and said, “I thought this was the easiest and most relatable movie that I’d filmed in a while, but maybe the public had trouble understanding the title. The movie was released right when COVID-19 was starting, so not many people were able to see the movie. I hope that this award motivates more people to watch the movie.”

Song Joong Ki won Best Actor for “Space Sweepers,” and said, “It was a cutting-edge movie that I was able to film well due to the hard work of the staff on set. I believe that it is due to those great seniors in the movie industry that we actors are able to stand on set.”

Bae Jong Ok won Best Supporting Actress for “Innocence,” and Park Jung Min won Best Supporting Actor for “Deliver Us from Evil.” Bae Jong Ok said, “I am thinking of all the people who suffered with me on set and overcame that suffering together.” Park Jung Min said, “I was probably the only person in this movie who didn’t suffer. I was always lazing around in rooms and getting massages, but I’m grateful to have received so much awards for this movie that I enjoyed filming.”

Directors Lee Won Se and Park Jong Won won the Lifetime Achievement Award, and the Chunsa World Award was won by Lee Isaac Chung, who directed the Oscar-nominated film “Minari.”

The Chunsa Art Awards, hosted by the Korean Film Directors Association, have been held since the 1990s to commemorate Korean film pioneer Na Woon Gyu (Chunsa was his pen name). Unlike other film festivals, the Chunsa Film Awards strives to overcome the commercialism in the movie industry and focus on aspects like creativity, artistry, and equity.
