Watch: “The Second World” Contestants Pair Up For Unit Battle + Round 2 Results Revealed

The contestants of “The Second World” have faced off in an intense unit battle!

JTBC’s “The Second World” features eight skillful girl group rappers going head-to-head in a singing competition to break the prejudice that rappers lack vocal talent. The contestants include former Wonder Girls member Yubin, former AOA member Shin Jimin, MAMAMOO’s Moonbyul, Oh My Girl’s Mimi, WJSN’s Exy, MOMOLAND’s JooE, Billlie’s Moon Sua, and CLASS:y’s Kim Seonyou.

The program is hosted by Paul Kim and the judging panel known as “voice readers” includes Kim Bum Soo, Jung Yup, Apink’s Jung Eun Ji, BTOB‘s Eunkwang, and MeloMance’s Kim Min Seok.

On the September 20 broadcast of “The Second World,” the eight contestants paired up to complete their Round 2 unit mission! The pairs were Mimi and Kim Seonyou, JooE and Moon Sua, Moonbyul and Exy, and Yubin and Shin Jimin.

Just like Round 1, this unit round proceeded with the teams choosing who they wanted to go up against. Round 2 team scores combined results from voice and global readers. The final rankings announced at the end of the episode combined each contestant’s individual scores from Round 1 with their team score in Round 2.

The first battle featured Mimi and Kim Seonyou’s team Meow against Moonbyul and Exy’s team SQS. Meow chose Lee Hi’s “Savior” as the song through which both of them could shine regardless of their age. In order to portray their sincerity, the pair wrote their own rap lyrics and decided to perform without a set or any props.

In response, SQS performed Wanna One’s “Energetic.” Their confident performance began with both ladies on the piano and continued with their powerful and precise choreography.

Ultimately, all voice readers voted SQS as the round’s winner.

Moonbyul and Exy (SQS) – “Energetic” (Wanna One)

In the second battle, JooE and Moon Sua’s team Who X battled against veteran team Two Seven with Yubin and Shin Jimin. To highlight their unique vocal characteristics, Who X performed a powerful rock version of Jessi’s “What Type of X.”

Yubin and Shin Jimin focused on creating a performance they could enjoy, so they chose to sing “Very Good” by Block B, switching up the track to add their own grooviness.

The voice readers’ chose JooE and Moon Sua’s team as the winner, helping both stars gain five votes after placing in the bottom two last week.

JooE and Moon Sua (Who X) – “What Type of X” (Jessi)

Yubin and Shin Jimin (Two Seven) – “Very Good” (Block B)

With wins in this unit round, Moonbyul, Exy, JooE, and Moon Sua earned 700 points. Combined with fan votes from the “global hearers,” Moonbyul and Exy were announced as the final winners of Round 2. The individual cumulative ranking for Round 1 and 2 were as follows:

  1. Moonbyul (2,000 points)
  2. Exy (1,329 points)
  3. Moon Sua (1,104 points)
  4. JooE (875 points)
  5. Mimi (848 points)
  6. Kim Seonyou (743 points)
  7. Shin Jimin (678 points)
  8. Yubin (432 points)
