On the latest episode of “The King of Mask Singer,” the identity of masked singer “Snowflakes” was revealed!
During the January 7 broadcast of the MBC singing competition, four contestants continued their quest to challenge the reigning champion for the throne.
In the second match-up of Round 2, Snowflakes wowed the crowd with a soulful rendition of Lee Hi’s “Rose.” The singer previously impressed the audience with her beautiful vocal tone during Round 1, when she sang a duet version of BIGBANG’s Taeyang’s “Only Look at Me.”
On last week’s episode of the show, both TREASURE’s Choi Hyun Suk and 2NE1’s Sandara Park guessed that Snowflakes was a member of YG Entertainment’s new girl group BABYMONSTER. The former labelmates agreed that her pronunciation and singing style was “unmistakably YG,” with Choi Hyun Suk adding that her voice reminded him a bit of BLACKPINK’s Rosé.
After hearing her Round 2 performance, Choi Hyun Suk amended his previous guess by declaring, “[I think] she’s an idol who used to be a YG trainee, but debuted under a different agency. I felt strongly like we share the same blood.”
Sandara Park agreed, noting that Snowflakes’ use of the stage and relaxed demeanor during her performance suggested that she was an experienced idol who had performed abroad.
In a song choice that seemed to match Choi Hyun Suk’s assessment, Snowflakes went on to perform BLACKPINK’s “Playing With Fire” in Round 3.
Although she earned praise for her performance, Snowflakes ultimately lost the round to her opponent.
When she finally took off her mask on stage, Choi Hyun Suk’s guess turned out to have been correct: Snowflakes was none other than fromis_9’s Lee Seoyeon, who was formerly a YG Entertainment trainee.
Revealing that her mother was a huge fan of the show, Seoyeon shared with a laugh, “[My mom] told me that if I go on ‘The King of Mask Singer,’ I can retire [from the entertainment industry]. But I don’t plan on retiring today.”
