On the latest episode of “The King of Mask Singer,” the identity of “Samba” was revealed!
During the September 1 broadcast of the MBC singing competition, four contestants moved on to the next round in their quest to challenge the reigning champion for the throne.
In the second match-up of Round 2, Samba delivered a captivating rendition of Kim Yoon Ah’s “I imagine dangerous love.”
After watching her performance, the celebrity panelists praised Samba for her talent and versatility, noting that she had shown a completely different side of herself compared to Round 1. The panelists also noted that Samba seemed like she could be anything: an idol, a musical actress, or even a trot singer.
Although Samba impressed the crowd with her singing, it was ultimately her opponent that won the round. When she took off her mask to unveil her identity, she turned out to be none other than Minyoung, the main vocalist of BBGIRLS (formerly known as Brave Girls).
Mentioning Brave Girls’ sensational rise to stardom after their 2017 song “Rollin’” went viral four years after its release, host Kim Sung Joo asked Minyoung, “Was the original concept for ‘Rollin’’ a bit different from what we ultimately wound up seeing?”
Minyoung replied, “Yes. When we recorded the song, we sang while imagining a fun, refreshing concept, like singing by the seaside. But after we’d finished recording, we were given our concept [for the comeback], and they said it was a vampire concept. So I dyed my hair red and even wore colored contact lenses.”
After the episode aired, Minyoung took to Instagram to share a photo she’d snapped while wearing her mask backstage. She wrote, “An outing to MBC. I had fun at ‘The King of Mask Singer.’ In particular, my high-quality mask was so pretty that I wanted to keep it…”
