On the latest episode of “The King of Mask Singer,” the identity of “Walking a Dog I Don’t Know” was revealed!
During the November 26 broadcast of the MBC singing competition, four contestants advanced to the next round in their quest to challenge the reigning champion.
In the second battle of Round 2, “Walking a Dog I Don’t Know” performed an emotional rendition of Lim Young Woong’s hit ballad “If We Ever Meet Again,” which moved several members of the audience to tears.
After watching his performance, panelist Shin Bong Sun shared, “To be honest, I cried [while watching him sing]. I teared up.” She then became choked up with emotion once again as she tearfully went on, “He was singing [with a dog mask on], and he reminded me of my dog that passed away last year.” She added, “I really enjoyed hearing you sing, and thank you so much.”
Before the voting results were revealed, the show played a special video message from OH MY GIRL’s Hyojung, who offered the audience several clues to the identity of “Walking a Dog I Don’t Know.” Hyojung revealed, “This person has a very small face… and rather than a puppy-dog look, he has large doe-like eyes. And he has a really great voice, so I think emotional songs suit him.”
As OH MY GIRL belongs to the same agency as ONF, panelist INFINITE’s Nam Woohyun guessed that “Walking a Dog I Don’t Know” might be ONF’s Hyojin.
Although the panelists praised “Walking a Dog I Don’t Know” for his skillful vocals, it was ultimately his opponent that won the battle. “Walking a Dog I Don’t Know” then remained on stage to take off his mask and reveal his identity.
Sure enough, the masked singer turned out to be none other than ONF’s leader and main vocalist Hyojin.
Hyojin then confessed that because he and the other Korean members of ONF—all of whom chose to enlist together to minimize their hiatus—had only recently returned from the military, he wasn’t quite up to date on the latest trends.
“I watched a lot of music shows and looked up lots of memes, but I couldn’t figure out what was going on at all,” he admitted. “So having overcome that, I feel relieved that I’m able to sing in front of lots of people now.”
