On the latest episode of “The King of Mask Singer,” the identity of “Deliciously Spicy” was revealed!
During the December 24 broadcast of the MBC singing competition, four contestants moved on to the next round in their quest to challenge the reigning champion for the throne.
In the first battle of Round 2, Deliciously Spicy performed a soulful cover of rookie boy group RIIZE’s hit debut track “Get A Guitar.”
On last week’s episode of “The King of Mask Singer,” panelist Kim Jae Hwan remarked after hearing Deliciously Spicy sing in Round 1 that he thought he’d figured out his identity. Without specifically naming the singer he had in mind, Kim Jae Hwan hinted, “[Deliciously Spicy] used to be part of a group, and it hasn’t been that long since he debuted as a solo artist.”
Host Kim Sung Joo went on to provide an additional clue to the masked singer’s identity: he was once the youngest contestant on an audition show that aired live.
After hearing more of his voice in Round 2, Kim Sung Joo asked Kim Jae Hwan if he still thought it was the same person, and both he and Kim Gura agreed that it was.
Although Deliciously Spicy earned praise for his beautiful vocal tone, he ultimately lost the round to his opponent. After his opponent left the stage, he remained behind to take off his mask and reveal his identity.
As it turned out, Kim Jae Hwan’s guess was correct: Deliciously Spicy was none other than former TREASURE member Bang Yedam, who recently made his official solo debut after leaving the group last year. Bang Yedam also famously got his start on Season 2 of SBS’s popular audition show “K-Pop Star,” where he ultimately placed second after AKMU at the age of 10.
When asked why he had decided to go solo, Bang Yedam replied, “I wanted to develop my abilities as a producer, and I think I also wound up taking on this new challenge because I wanted to get closer to the dream that I’ve had ever since I was a child.”
