U-KISS’s Jun, who starred in OCN’s “Mr. Temporary,” recently made his musical debut in “Swagage.”
Jun said in an interview with Star Today, “Honestly, when I received the script, I thought it was a drama. I didn’t even think for a second that it was a musical. The synopsis was really fun, and my agency CEO later told me it was a musical. That made me think twice. Because it’s a medium I’ve never done before and because of prejudice toward idols, I wasn’t confident, so I turned it down. I didn’t think I could overcome the pressure.”
However, he revealed that the message of the project is what made him change his mind. “I kept thinking about the line that says, ‘Our small cries are what will change the world.’ It was so apt in reflecting the current state of the world, so I felt I had to do it. And then I started to regret it during rehearsals. Everyone was so good that I just focused on not becoming a hindrance to the project.”
He added, “If the opportunity arises, I’d like to return to the musical stage. The response was better than I thought, and I’m so thankful for those that saw me as the musical actor Lee Jun Young.”
Talking about future plans with U-KISS, Jun said, “The members are still in the military. Our leader was recently discharged. I think the two of us will be meeting with fans. We haven’t come up with anything specific, but we’re having discussions with our agency.”
Closing, Jun talked about his career goals. “Before, I wanted to be really popular and successful. Now, I just want to live as an artist. I want to draw, I want to work on music and release a single album, and when I want to dance, I want to participate in battles. And then when I want to act, I want to focus on that.”
