TWICE Talks About Message Of “SET ME FREE,” Performing At Billboard’s Women In Music Awards, Upcoming World Tour, And More

TWICE has dished on their latest comeback, upcoming tour, and more in a new interview!

On March 10 at 2 p.m. KST, TWICE dropped their 12th mini album “READY TO BE,” which features their exciting title track “SET ME FREE” and pre-release English single “MOONLIGHT SUNRISE.”

Sharing excitement for the group’s first comeback of the year, Nayeon commented, “As this is our first comeback in nearly seven months and our first of 2023, we prepared diligently to showcase a new image to fans. I’m excited and looking forward to it because I think we’ll be able to show a concept and performance that’s different from our previous release.”

Touching on the message they aim to convey with “SET ME FREE,” leader Jihyo explained, “Our title track ‘SET ME FREE’ holds the meaning of ‘Let’s break away from everything that binds us and love freely, to our heart’s content.’ I figure that many people will be able to feel another kind of TWICE’s charms. I hope people listen to our song and watch our performance enjoyably.” Additionally, when asked what makes the group feel free, Dahyun excitedly chose their fandom ONCE.

In late January, TWICE unveiled their pre-release English-language single “MOONLIGHT SUNRISE,” which went on to become the group’s second song to debut on the Hot 100. Referring to their recent premiere performance of “MOONLIGHT SUNRISE,” Momo remarked, “It was especially meaningful that we were able to show a performance of our pre-release track at the Billboard Women in Music awards. This is a song I personally really like and our fans seem to like it too, so I’m happy that we feel the same way.”

Along with their performance at Billboard’s Women in Music 2023 awards, TWICE was honored with the Breakthrough Artist award. To elaborate on their experience attending the event and add on to their acceptance speech, Dahyun commented, “I was so surprised and touched that the many people who attended the awards show would enthusiastically cheer whenever we were shown on screen. I want to sincerely thank everyone who supports TWICE.”

Chaeyoung chimed in, “I want to say thank you to my family. Also, I thought it was different and interesting that a meal was served during the awards ceremony.” Tzuyu added, “We were able to achieve this special accomplishment thanks to ONCE. ONCE’s great love is always a big driving force for us, so I want to say thank you so much.”

Considering TWICE’s recent achievements on a global scale, the members were asked why they think they are so loved around the world. Sana answered, “I feel thankful that K-pop fans seem to love and cherish TWICE’s music and performances. I’ve also seen many people mention that our harmonious atmosphere and teamwork stands out on stage!”

Mina continued, “I believe that perhaps people like our teamwork and the way we enjoy ourselves on stage.” Jihyo responded, “I figure that it’s our bright and positive energy that comes from our teamwork, the diverse genres of our songs, and our active album promotions.”

Leading up to the release of TWICE’s “READY TO BE,” the group dropped numerous eye-catching teasers that left fans even more excited with each new hint. When asked if they saw any memorable reactions to their teasers, Dahyun replied, “The reaction ‘Queen is back!!’ had a powerful impact.”

Last year, Nayeon became the first TWICE member to make a solo debut, and Mina, Sana, and Momo are currently gearing up to make their unit debut in Japan later this summer. Regarding the potential of more solo or unit releases from TWICE, Jihyo explained, “As a group, we plan to continue showcasing new images of TWICE. If the opportunity arises, I think we may be able to show the members’ various charms through solo or unit promotions.”

Back in May, TWICE made history after becoming the first K-pop girl group to headline a sold-out show at a North American stadium with a two-night encore concert at BMO (formerly Banc of California) Stadium in Los Angeles. Starting in April, TWICE will embark on their fifth world tour “READY TO BE” which impressively includes even more stadium shows around the world.

The members excitedly spoke about their global growth and upcoming tour, with Jihyo saying, “Seeing the scale gradually become bigger with every tour makes me feel thankful and also helps me enjoy the performance even more. My desire to repay fans who cherish TWICE and seek out our concerts with cool performances, and also convey good energy, gradually grows bigger.”

Regarding their sold-out encore show, Mina added, “This was the moment I realized that we are receiving a lot of love overseas too. The weather was really great so the members were even more excited.” Tzuyu continued, “Even though I can feel that many people like TWICE from all around the world, it’s still fascinating. I’m so happy to be able to show our songs and performances to even more fans.”

On what fans can anticipate from TWICE’s upcoming world tour, Jeongyeon explained, “In addition to the venues, the scale of this tour plans to be the largest ever from TWICE in a variety of ways. We will put on the best performances to such an extent that fans do not regret coming to the concert. Please look forward to our new image!”

Following the group’s recent performance of “SET ME FREE” on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” TWICE is currently still in New York for a variety of upcoming events. On March 10 (local time), New York’s Empire State Building will be lighting up in TWICE’ official colors. Next week, TWICE will appear on “The Kelly Clarkson Show” for a performance and interview.
