TWICE has just made K-pop history in the United States!
On March 19 local time, Billboard officially announced that TWICE’s new mini album “READY TO BE” had debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 after achieving the biggest U.S. sales week of any female K-pop artist in history.
According to Luminate (formerly Nielsen Music), “READY TO BE” earned a total of 153,000 equivalent album units during the week ending on March 16, marking the biggest week ever achieved by a K-pop girl group. The album’s total score consisted of 145,500 traditional album sales (a new record for female K-pop acts) and 7,000 streaming equivalent album (SEA) units—which translates to 10.28 million on-demand audio streams over the course of the week. The mini album also racked up 500 track equivalent album (TEA) units in its first week.
While such impressive figures would have easily ensured a No. 1 debut in another week, TWICE faced stiff competition from Morgan Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time,” which racked up a whopping 259,000 equivalent album units this week.
TWICE is now the first female K-pop artist in history to land three albums in the top 3 of the Billboard 200, as well as the first to chart four albums in the top 10.
“READY TO BE” is also TWICE’s sixth overall entry on the chart following “MORE & MORE” (which debuted at No. 200), “Eyes wide open” (No. 72), “Taste of Love” (No. 6), “Formula of Love: O+T=<3” (No. 3), and “BETWEEN 1&2” (also No. 3). At present, no other female K-pop act has more than four entries.
Congratulations to TWICE on their historic achievement!
