TWICE Earns Their 1st-Ever Double Platinum RIAJ Certification In Japan For Streaming + BTS And BLACKPINK Go Gold

May 28, 2023

The Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) has announced its latest batch of official certifications!

In 2020, the RIAJ implemented a new certification system for online streaming of songs, as an addition to its pre-existing certification systems for physical album shipments and digital download sales. According to the new system, songs are certified silver once they reach 30 million streams, gold at 50 million streams, and platinum at 100 million streams.

In the RIAJ’s newly announced batch of certifications, TWICE, BTS, and BLACKPINK all earned official platinum certifications for streaming.

TWICE’s 2019 hit “Feel Special” received a double platinum certification after surpassing 200 million streams, making it their first song ever to achieve the feat. (While TWICE has previously earned double platinum certifications from the RIAJ for physical albums, this new achievement marks the first time one of their songs has been certified double platinum for streaming.)
