Get ready for an exciting lineup of dramas from tvN in 2024!
On January 10, tvN unveiled a list of their upcoming dramas for the new year, giving fans a diverse array of dramas to look forward to.
Check out the dramas below:
Penned by “The Crowned Clown” writer Kim Sun Deok, “Captivating the King” will tell the cruel love story of King Yi In (Jo Jung Suk), a miserable monarch who feels empty inside despite his high position, and Kang Hee Soo (Shin Se Kyung), whose initial plot of revenge against him transforms into unexpected attraction. “Captivating the King” will premiere the first two episodes back-to-back on January 21 and air every Sunday at 9:20 p.m. KST.
Penned by “Crash Landing on You,” “My Love From the Star,” and “Producer” writer Park Ji Eun, “Queen of Tears” (literal translation) will follow the romance of Hong Hae In (Kim Ji Won), the chaebol heiress known as the “queen” of Queens Group’s department stores, and Baek Hyun Woo (Kim Soo Hyun), who is the son of the head of Yongduri and the “supermarket prince,” as they face a crisis three years into marriage and start their love again like a miracle. Further starring Lee Joo Bin, Park Sung Hoon, Kwak Dong Yeon, and more, “Queen of Tears” is confirmed to premiere in March.
Based off a webtoon, “Jeong Nyeon” (romanized title) is set in the 1950s and tells the story of Yoon Jeong Nyeon (Kim Tae Ri), a young girl from Mokpo who has no money or education but is born with a talented singing voice. The historical drama follows the happenings that occur when Yoon Jeong Nyeon joins a women’s traditional theater company to achieve her dreams of becoming rich. “Jeong Nyeon” will be helmed by director Jung Ji In of “The Red Sleeve” and stars Kim Tae Ri, Shin Ye Eun, Ra Mi Ran, and Moon So Ri.
“Mom’s Friend’s Son” (literal title) is a new rom-com drama about a woman named Bae Seok Ryu (Jung So Min), who tries to restart her troubled life, and her mom’s friend’s son Choi Seung Hyo (Jung Hae In), who is marked as the dark chapter in Bae Seok Ryu’s life. The drama will be helmed by director Yoo Je Won and writer Shin Ha Eun of “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha.”
“A Life of a Resident That Will Be Wise Someday” (literal title) is a drama which will depict the realistic and relatable hospital lives and turbulent friendships of doctors and residents at the Jongro branch of Yulje Medical Center. Director Shin Won Ho and writer Lee Woo Jung, who produced the “Reply” series and the “Hospital Playlist” series, will participate as creators in the new project. In addition to Go Yoon Jung, Kang You Seok, and Shin Si Ah, who were previously confirmed to star in the drama, Han Ye Ji and Jung Joon Won will also be joining the cast lineup.
Based on the popular web novel “The Best of Tomorrow,” “Carry Sun Jae and Run” (literal title) is a new time-slip romance drama that unfolds as Im Sol (Kim Hye Yoon), a passionate fan devastated by the death of her favorite star Ryu Sun Jae (Byun Woo Seok), goes back in time to save him. The drama is penned by Lee Si Eun, the writer of “True Beauty” and “Top Star U-Back.”
“Thank You” (literal title) is an office investigative drama that takes place in the backdrop of the audit office of JU Construction Company where corruption is rampant. The story shows the chaotic teamwork of the cold team leader and affectionate team members of the audit team. Shin Ha Kyun will be playing JU Construction Company’s audit office team leader Shin Cha Il.
“Parole Officer Lee Han Shin” (literal title) follows the story of Lee Han Shin (Go Soo), who has the enormous power to determine whether inmates will be released on parole, as he carries out justice in his own way. Director Yoon Sang Ho of “Curtain Call,” “Jinxed at First,” and “River Where the Moon Rises” and scriptwriter Park Chi Hyung will be working together.
After the successful run of Season 1 in 2018, “Player” is back after six years with a new season titled “Player 2: War of Gambler” (literal title). The drama is about the gathering of the greatest “players” including scammers, hackers, fighters, and drivers as they gather together to cleanly sweep the dirty money owned by the greatest villains. The drama will star Song Seung Heon, Lee Si Eon, Tae Won Suk, Oh Yeon Seo, and Jang Gyu Ri.
“Won Kyung” (romanized title) tells the story about the fiery life of Queen Won Kyung (Cha Joo Young), a kingmaker who dreamed of a new world in the early Joseon Dynasty and made her husband Lee Bang Won (Lee Hyun Wook) a king with whom she shared the power of the throne. Although she was recorded in historical records only as “King Taejong’s wife” or “Mrs. Min” without her full name, the drama sheds light on Queen Won Kyung, who lived an independent life without losing herself despite devastating betrayals and harsh reality.
“Wedding Impossible” (literal title) is about unknown actress Na Ah Jung (Jeon Jong Seo), who decides on a fake marriage with her male friend in order to become the main character for the first time in her life, and her future brother-in-law Lee Ji Han (Moon Sang Min) who is desperately opposed to his older brother’s marriage. Jeon Jong Seo will be playing the unknown but talented actress Na Ah Jung, while Moon Sang Min will be playing the youngest grandson of LJ Group’s chairman who hides his identity as a third-generation chaebol.
Written by writer Kim Hye Young of “Her Private Life,” “Because I Want No Loss” (literal title) is a rom-com drama which tells the story of Son Hae Young (Shin Min Ah), who fakes her marriage because she doesn’t want to take any loss, and Kim Ji Wook (Kim Young Dae). who becomes her fake husband because he doesn’t want to cause any harm. Lee Sang Yi was recently confirmed to be joining the cast lineup.
A new drama by director Ahn Pan Seok, who produced various hit romance dramas such as “Something in the Rain,” “One Spring Night,” and “Secret Love Affair,” “Graduation” (literal title) is set against the backdrop of Daechi, a neighborhood renowned as the epicenter of private education in Korea. The plot centers around an instructor who tirelessly assists a student named Lee Joon Ho (Wi Ha Joon) in gaining admission to a prestigious university. In a twist of fate, Lee Joon Ho later returns to the academy as a rookie instructor after resigning from a large company because he remains fixated on his first love, his academy teacher Seo Hye Jin (Jung Ryeo Won), even after becoming an adult.
