Less than a month after its release, “The Outlaws 2” (also known as “The Roundup”) has already made history by outselling some legendary blockbusters at the Korean box office!
According to the Korean Film Council, as of June 12, “The Outlaws 2” had recorded a total of 10,503,886 moviegoers after taking first place at the box office for the fourth consecutive weekend.
The hit action film has now surpassed the final total of 10,313,201 moviegoers recorded by the award-winning 2019 “Parasite,” as well as those of the 2014 Disney film “Frozen” and the 2014 Hollywood film “Interstellar,” all of which were notably released pre-pandemic.
Having broken the previous record set by “Parasite,” “The Outlaws 2” is now officially the top-selling May release in Korean box office history.
Including international films, only 28 movies have ever surpassed 10 million moviegoers at the South Korean box office—and only 20 Korean films have ever reached the milestone. (“Parasite” was the last film to achieve the feat before “The Outlaws 2” became the 20th this weekend.)
The sequel to Ma Dong Seok’s popular 2017 action film “The Outlaws,” “The Outlaws 2” follows the exciting adventures of legendary detective Ma Seok Do and his police station’s violent crimes squad as they chase down a powerful new villain (played by Son Suk Ku).
Congratulations to the cast and crew of “The Outlaws 2” on their historic achievement!
