“The Last Empress” Returns To No. 1 In Time Slot Despite Choi Jin Hyuk’s Departure
Feb 21, 2019
SBS’s “The Last Empress” is still going strong!
Earlier this month, SBS decided to extend the popular drama’s run, adding four extra episodes to its original 48. However, due to scheduling conflicts, lead actor Choi Jin Hyuk was unable to appear in the four newly added episodes.
In spite of Choi Jin Hyuk’s departure, “The Last Empress” continued to perform well on February 20. According to Nielsen Korea, the February 20 broadcast of the drama—which featured the first two episodes filmed without Choi Jin Hyuk—managed to take first place in its time slot. The penultimate broadcast of “The Last Empress” scored average nationwide viewership ratings of 11.7 percent during its first half and 13.8 percent during its second.
KBS 2TV’s “Liver or Die” took second place for the night, scoring average viewership ratings of 10.1 percent and 12.3 percent during its two parts. Meanwhile, MBC’s “Spring Turns to Spring” scored ratings of 2.0 percent and 2.4 percent for the evening.
tvN’s “Touch Your Heart” enjoyed an increase in viewership ratings, scoring an average of 4.1 percent and a peak of 5.2 percent nationwide for its latest episode.
“The Last Empress” will air its final two episodes on February 21 at 10 p.m. KST. In the meantime, check out the latest episode below!
