Strong Girl Nam-soon – K Drama Episode 3

Oct 15, 2023

Episode 3 of Strong Girl Nam-soon picks back up at the scene where Nam-soon visits Bong-go’s photo studio. When he sees her face, he stops in his tracks and decides to open up the studio so she can get her photographs. But she then gets a call from Hee-sik telling her that the woman who scammed her was caught. Not requiring a photograph anymore, she thanks Bong-go and leaves. After a moment, he tries running after her but she’s long gone.

At the police station, Nam-soon gets her stuff back but her money is already spent. A woman turns up there claiming to be the wife of the man who Nam-soon beat up. She’s pressing charges against Nam-soon for his medical bills. Hee-sik and the other officer don’t believe her but Nam-soon admits throwing the man 50 feet away.

She agrees to get work till she can pay the bills. Hee-sik goes after Nam-soon as she’s leaving to make sure she’s okay. When he tells her to learn how to speak formally, she tells him he’s handsome using honorifics and then runs off.

Back in the police station, Hee-sik looks at a video of Nam-soon and is shocked to see her feats of strength. He realises that she really did see him dancing in his underwear.

At The Heritage Club, Geum-ju opens the envelope she receives to see a card called Opulentia. She is then introduced to Ryu Shi-oh. They discuss how both of them are the only people who are not from old money.

Meanwhile, Hwa-ja invites the members of her gang to Geum-ju’s house. She tells them she’s changed her mind and wants to continue living as Nam-soon. But for that, the real Nam-soon needs to be dealt with. She shows them a video of Nam-soon carrying material to build her ger.

Joong-gan returns to her building to find a fuss around the car that she left upside down. The driver who was rude to her is complaining about it to the police. At the police station, one of the officers recognises her from her feat in 1983 — she saved her locality from being taken over by a violent gang by beating them all up. And not three days after giving birth to her daughter!

After dealing with the rude driver, she is about to leave but notices a man enter the police station — it’s none other than Ahn Min-hyuk! He goes up to Bong-soon who is being questioned by the police for beating up two men who were trying to steal and maltreat innocent dogs. Joong-gan meets with Bong-soon and they have a sweet reunion.

Bon-go speaks to Nam-in about how he thought the girl at the studio was Nam-soon. Nam-in does a tarot card reading for Nam-soon and tells his father that Nam-soon is coming towards them.

In the hopes of earning some money, Nam-soon takes up a job as an extra on a film set but does not enjoy being made to play the damsel.

Hee-sik asks for a background check on all the people who were on the flight from Mongolia. His colleague tells him there was no evidence on the phone of the drug dealer they caught. He then gets a call saying that one of the passengers from the flight is dead. It turns out that the passenger, a woman, died of the same drug that the police had found in the bottle of baby formula. The lab worker tells them it’s stronger than other drugs.

At the woman’s apartment, the lack of food tells Hee-sik that the drug stops a person from wanting to consume food. Meanwhile, Ryu Shi-oh visits a lab tucked away in the mountains.

At the film set, Nam-soon realises that the extras are not given the same food as the main cast. She argues with the filmmakers and then pushes the food truck towards the extras with a single hand.

Hee-sik visits Nam-soon’s ger but she isn’t there. He then gets a call from the person who was looking into the missing child cases in Mongolia. From the list he sent over, Hee-sik finds Nam-soon’s name.

Geum-ju finds that Opulentia is a philanthropic organization and donates money to it. Her secretary updates her on Hwa-ja’s plans but despite that Geum-ju does not want to ill-treat her.

Nam-soon visits the man she injured in the hospital and gives him the money she earned. When his wife, who is present, learns about the other woman who went to the police station, he gets into trouble.

Hwa-ja and her gang go to the park and destroy Nam-soon’s ger but the secretary learns about this. Nam-soon is walking with her vagrant friends when she sees the gang’s actions from afar. The police get a report about it as well.

Using her superspeed, Nam-soon runs to the park and confronts the group, demanding they stop. When she’s only met with sneers, she beats the entire group up. Hee-sik arrives in time to see her throwing people like confetti and jumping high into the air.

Hwa-ja runs away from the scene. The friends are disheartened at the situation and they to look for another place. Hee-sik offers Nam-soon his own place for the time being. Once there, he gets a call from a colleague who tells him Hwa-ja was the one who ordered the gang.

At home, Joong-gan is angry to hear that Hwa-ja has tricked them. Geum-ju still insists on being nice to her, though. She believes that if she’s unkind to someone, then someone will be unkind to her Nam-soon.

Hee-sik calls Geum-ju and tells her he’s found the real Nam-soon. Just as he’s on the phone, Nam-soon comes out of the shower and he gets a little starstruck. He then tells Nam-soon he’s found her mother.

A bunch of Hee-sik’s team discuss how Nam-soon fought off 20 people. They belong to a secret task force formed due to the spike in drug cases. Geum-ju asks her employee to get information on Hee-sik and learns that he’s part of a secret task force. Nam-soon’s couple of friends settle down with other homeless people on the roadside.

Before going to sleep, Nam-soon thanks Hee-sik for fulfilling his promise and finding her mother. Hee-sik and Geum-ju speak on the phone again and she gives him an address where she and Nam-soon can meet the next day. Geum-ju sincerely thanks him. She then calls Bong-go and conveys the good news.

In the morning, Hee-sik gets new clothes delivered for Nam-soon. She puts them on and happily goes off to meet her family. Hee-sik washes up in the bathroom and then speaks to a colleague about the drug case. While he’s doing so, he touches the mask which was taken as evidence and when it seems to dissolve the material, he realises that the drugs were in the mask.

Meanwhile, a woman who is clearly on drugs sets fire to the building she’s in. Nam-soon is nearby and hears cries of help. She decides to go there first. Geum-ju, too, sees that a fire truck is stuck in traffic. Nam-soon jumps into one of the windows up high and begins saving kids, even as the smoke seems to get to her.

Geum-ju moves cars to the side of the road so the firefighters can make their way. She then arrives in time to see Nam-soon struggling but entering the building again. She turns a fence into a ladder and climbs inside the window. As she reaches, she and Nam-soon come face to face and greet each other.

Geum-ju reaches out and Nam-soon is about to take her hand when a burst of fire from inside pushes Nam-soon out the window. As she falls, Geum-ju leaps off the ladder and grabs hold of her mid-air.

The Episode Review

Strong Girl Nam-soon Episode 3 continues with a good dose of entertainment and thrill. Watching Nam-soon take on more than 20 heavy-set men is a joy and Hee-sik’s appropriate reactions make the scenes even funnier. The mystery about the drugs moves on in the sidelines, although I’m sure it will get a higher prominence over the next few episodes.

It is intriguing to know that Hee-sik is part of a secret task force battling drugs. Additionally, the reveal about the drugs being in the face masks was a good twist!

The highlight of this episode is definitely the wholesome cameo by Park Bo-young and Park Hyung-sik as Bong-soon and Min-hyuk. They were a delight to have on-screen again and lit the episode up with their trademark cuteness. I am surprised they included the cameo this early on in the series since I’m sure it was something most viewers were looking forward to. Maybe this means they’ll turn up once more before the end. We’ll have to wait and see.
