Tadao, an ex-fisherman lives with his 18-year-old granddaughter Haru. Haru recently lost her job, and Tadao can’t help but be a burden on her due to his injured leg. One day they embark on a journey to find a new home, first traveling northeast for an uncomfortable reunion with their estranged family.
