One Dollar Lawyer episode 2 starts with us finally seeing what this evidence is that will prove Myeong-ho’s innocence – it’s a box full of nothing. It leaves the judge, Ma-ri and the jury confused, and Ji-hun makes the point that everyone has to assume that the defendant is innocent until he is proven guilty since that is what Korean law dictates.
He, thus, asks Ma-ri to put in the evidence that definitively proves that Myeong-ho is guilty, which leaves her speechless. He tells the court that the prosecution doesn’t have any evidence, and there’s no way for them to prove that he had the intent to steal either since he was arrested for attempting to steal, not actually for stealing.

Either way, Ji-hun brings Myeong-ho to the stand and a fiery questioning starts after throwing more horrible questions his way; ji-hun brings the only apparent witness in front of everyone and outs on a rather interesting show for them that leaves the jury and the judge confused and speechless.
After a rather passionate ending statement from them both, everyone rules in favour of Myeong-ho and Ji-hun and everyone is left happy and relieved. Well, except Ma-ri, who looks rather salty. However, she does shake hands with him later on, which, in turn, turns into Ji-hun asking her (or the prosecution) for an indemnity that will cover Somi’s medical bills.
As things turn out for the best for everyone and everyone celebrates, Ma-ri is left with Ji-hun’s last words to her as she files for an appeal – none of us really know the truth; we are all going towards it. However, she does eventually throw it away, as we see the next day. As Ma-ri gets ready to leave her probationary period, Ye-jin gives her the crumpled appeal sheet and tells her to look at it when she loses focus.

Anyway, Ma-ri is moving on to bigger and better things, which include her going to meet her grandfather, Baek Hyun-mu, with great confidence. However, things don’t work out as well for her, unfortunately, as Hyun-mu tells her that she can’t be a probationary employee at his company, but rather, she’ll be working somewhere at Seoul Jongno-gu.
Ma-ri goes out to her new workplace with confidence, but little does she know that she will have to earn her place at Baek Law Firm! Outside of the workplace, she is, as expected, not happy with where she is and more so when she realizes whom she has to work with. Unfortunately, she doesn’t have much of an option and thus, with stars in her eyes and dread in her heart, she walks into the dirty firm to finally meet her to-be colleagues.
After a rather silly conversation between the two and a rather dangerous tumble on her part, she throws a stupid tantrum for no reason and acts all tough and mighty, although she must spend 2 months there as a probationary worker. Either way, she huffs off after throwing shade at him and goes straight to her grandfather to pout like a 5-year-old.

Either way, Hyun-mu is more mature and directs his granddaughter in the right direction and tells her to essentially do it for 2 months since she will be able to learn a lot from him – he’s the kind of lawyer they don’t have their law firm. Meanwhile, Min-hyeok is back in Korea and is planning to propose to Ma-ri with a $50,000 ring.
The next day when Ji-hun goes to the office, he is left astonished at the cleanliness in his office and even more so when he finds Ma-ri back there. He asks her why she wants to work in his office, and although Ma-ri tries to lie her way in, he refuses to back down to her bullying.
It’s interesting how they both try to look into each other’s souls while they threaten each other. The tension dies out when Mu-jang gets there but then they are all left to go into hiding when their landlady comes in. However, she’s not here to get their rent, she wants to hire him for a very important dispute resolution, and although Ma-ri helps him out, for the time being, he still refuses to hire her.

Now resolved to make a place for herself, she decides to help Mu-jang to get cases. Meanwhile, Ji-hun is at the office curling his hair, gets a curious knock on his door, and finds young Kim Gun-woo, who wants the lawyer’s help to teach his grandfather’s bully a lesson.
Unfortunately, Kim Man-bok doesn’t want their help. But when Yeoung-bae rushes in and starts bulling Man-bok and is a general bad guy to everyone, Ji-hun steps in and basically totals his very expensive car. Hilariously, Ji-hun tells Yeoung-bae that now that his car is ruined, Man-bok’s scratch can’t be seen anymore, and thus, this is a completely new case.
Ji-hun tells Yeoung-bae to contact his lawyer to move forward with the case and tells Ma-ri that she’s his lawyer for this case. If she can win it, then she can work with him, much to her shock and confusion!
Ok, ok, I think I am warming up to Ji-hun and his antics. I think his rather charming and wacky personality has swept me off his feet. Actually, he’s so odd that he’s entertaining, and for a show that doesn’t take itself too seriously, I think that works.

He’s also a stark contrast to Ma-ri’s brattiness, whose character is going to go through quite a lot of change that she will fall for the lawyer and will become palatable. Or, that’s what I am hoping. Because, otherwise, the fact that she runs off in a huff every time she doesn’t get her way is becoming very old very fast, and we’re just at episode 2.
