Once Upon a Small Town episode 11 starts with Ja-young and Ji-yul finally showing their love for each other as she goes in for a sudden kiss. We see the aftermath of the kiss as a confused Ji-yul goes in for seconds as the initial shock wears off. However, when Yeong-suk comes in unexpectedly, he rushes Ja-young to hide.
Later on, the two of them discuss keeping their relationship a secret since, well, their neighbours are nosy, but the two of them smile like there’s no tomorrow, and the rush of feelings is apparent in huge smiles and excited mannerisms. It’s actually adorable to watch them so excited, especially Ji-yul, whose broad smile is a sight for sore eyes!
While Ja-young excitedly goes home to think about the events of the day, Ji-yul decides to go through his grandfather’s case files to know about taking care of big animals better and leaves Yeong-suk amused when he tells her that the large suitcase in the clinic is actually his, which she finds odd since he is supposed to go back to Seoul soon. However, she realises that the place might have grown on him.
That evening, the two of them, after some sweet talk, decide on a spree to go to Seoul that night, and she clearly gets very excited when he takes her to his clinic. Once there, they talk about the commute that they will have to undertake to meet each other. Ja-young, rather sweetly, mentions that the travel is nothing at all, and he, too, promises her to do better so that their relationship can run smoothly.

The trip back to town is rather sweet, and the two constantly laugh and talk to each other throughout the car ride. Ji-yul’s face when he drops her off at her place, is priceless.
At work the next day, Ja-young, now full of love and smiling constantly, opts out of doing work for someone, which totally throws her colleagues off. Ji-yul comes to her rescue soon enough and takes her away from work on the pretext of delivering dog food to her place. However, Ja-young is rather scared about their relationship being caught, but Ji-yul puts her mind to ease with finesse.
Later on, Ja-young has a rather delightful epiphany wherein she tells everyone from the village that she doesn’t care whether others like her or not. She did want constant attention and affection, but she has come to realise that she doesn’t need others’ validation. She’s ok with everyone not liking her.
And thus, with a smile on her face, she rushes off to meet Ji-yul as they rush off on a date. However, obviously, their dates can’t just be simple and loving – there needs to be an element of secrecy and thrill, and they eat at a restaurant where the owner knows them, and they pretend not to know each other.
That night, after giving each other rather silly pet names, Ja-young and Ji-yul go to meet Sang-hyeon so that she can officially tell him her decision to date Ji-yul. Although Sang-hyeon is bummed a bit, he’s still a solid presence by Ja-young’s side, and regardless of his feelings towards her, he seems to be happy that his friend is happy.
Just as they are going back home, Ji-yul kisses Ja-young on a rather deserted stretch of land, and it seems like their secret relationship is almost about to be caught!

Once Upon a Small Town episode 11 embarks on rather familiar grounds but in a town as picturesque as Huidong, that, too, feels rather nice to watch. It’s not new or really interesting, but it’s great for a good time. Moreover, Joy and Choo Yeong-woo have rather good chemistry and especially in the moments where they laugh and spend time with each other, it’s definitely sweet to watch.
That being said, I am wondering what the point of introducing Sang-hyeon and Min was. They literally have no other point than to push the couple’s lives forward. What a waste.
