Doctor Lawyer finale starts with Yi-han sharing a terrible truth with Hyun-seong and Jung-ok. At first they deny that Jin-gi can be a murderer but when Yoon-jung backs up Yi-han’s claim, Jung-ok is taken aback and looks fired up. She asks why he’s telling them all this and Yi-han puts forth his proposition – he wants help in finding Hyun-gu and in return, he will save Banseok from Jayden.

As Jung-ok faces a difficult decision, Yi-han brings Jun-hwan to the meeting so that he can prove to Jung-ok and Hyun-seong that Jin-gi isn’t the person that they know him to be. Surprisingly, Hyun-seong is the one who comes up with the solution to find Hyun-gu and they decide to keep Eun-sil under scrutiny.

Later on, at Yi-han’s meeting with Susie Yoon, Yi-han gets a call from Hyun-seong who lets him know that they have found Hyun-gu. Yi-han tells him to keep an eye on Hyun-ok and to not do anything brash since it wouldn’t be easy to make him talk. It’s weirdly sweet watching Yi-han and Hyun-seong being cordial and working together.

Anyway, Yi-han leaves Susie to talk to Dae-woong and saves Hyun-ok from the thugs so that he will trust him and work with him. Yi-han reiterates he should save himself and not let Jin-gi pin everything on him and that Jung-hyun’s safety is the only way in which he can save himself.

Back at the courtroom, as Eun-sil’s phone rings and Seok-yeong intercepts it and picks it up for everyone to hear. As Hyun-gu emerges from the public galler, Jin-gi and Eun-sil, and even the judge, is shocked at the turn of events. Yi-han comes into the court next with Jung-hyun and tells the judge that he will be representing her and Hyun-gu.

As the trial starts again, the judges decide to adjourn for 20 minutes to come to a decision regarding whether they can let Hyun-gu testify in court or not. Meanwhile, Jayden takes Yu-na to his accident site to tell him a story but it’s cut short when Michael asks him to meet him and Susie. As they meet at the penthouse, Seok-yeong question Hyun-gu and a whole tin can full of worms open up. The man even had saved each and every order that Jin-gi had given him.

After these shocking revelations, Jung-hyun takes the stand to provide even more statements against Jin-gi and Eun-sil and Jin-gi look absolutely defeated. At the penthouse, Susie tells Jayden that if it comes to light at the hearing that day that he had, in fact, received an illegal heart transplant, then his career is over then and there.

Back at the court, Jung-hyun tells everyone who took out Seok-ju’s heart and how everything came about. Jin-gi accepts the charges as well and the shocking story breaks everyone’s hearts – Seok-yeong’s sobs turn into her falling breathless on the ground, her disease finally catching up to her. As the trial gets halted, they push the date for the trial back.

As Jing-gi is escorted back, a sobbing Hyun-seong asks his father why he did what he did and Jin-gi can do nothing but apologise for to his son. At New Hope, Yi-han stares at an unconscious Seok-yeong as he wonders what to do now.

The next day, Jayden plans on leaving Korea the moment he makes his investments back in stock and Yu-na agrees to leave with him. Meanwhile, Eun-sil tells Jin-gi that she won’t be able to help him anymore since Yi-han reported her to the bar association and that she will most likely get disbarred for her illegal activities. As Eun-sil leaves, Yi-han meets Jin-gi.

Yi-han asks him why he used Seok-ju and him in such a cruel way and the latter simply replies that he was greedy and did it in order to get rid of him. He looks remorseful and says as such but it remains to be seen whether it’s all an elaborate ruse to use Yi-han and others. Jin-gi says something shocking to Yi-han after this – that he has video proof of Jayden being the recipient of Seok-ju’s heart and that he must find it in order to stop Jayden from taking Banseok.

Yi-han does go to Banseok to find the video and in Jin-gi’s office, gets his hands on the tape. Meanwhile, the jail doctor injects Jin-gi with something and renders him unconscious. When he comes to, he finds Jayden in front of him – he stands in front of him with a syringe of the drug he was injected with 5 years ago.

Jayden mentions that he doesn’t care to silence him, he wants revenge for taking away the most important thing that he had in his life. As Yi-han watches the video and discuss who got whose heart that night, Jayden opens up about what happened that night 5 years ago.

Jayden went to meet an elderly woman Kim Jung-hye, who apparently was his friend’s mother. Jayden excitedly asks him why she never met her son and the expression on his face makes it certain that she was his birth mother, a complicated situation all around. After finding his mother so many years later, he wasn’t able to have a straight conversation with her for more than 5 minutes before the two got into the accident.

An accident, which, by the way, Hyun-gu caused. After the accident, Jayden wakes up and gets to know that not only did his mother die but that the hospital held a funeral for her as well. So now, he doesn’t even have the option to say goodbye to her one last time.

Back in the present, Jayden doesn’t let Jin-gi finish whatever it is he was going to say and injects him with the drug. He leaves him to suffer alone, slowly and painfully, just like he did for so many years. On the other hand, Yi-han gets to know the entire story as well and finally understands why he’s been doing what he’s been doing.

After he gets admitted to Banseok later, Jin-gi asks Hyeon-seong to call Yi-han to him since he doesn’t have much time. He mentions Hyun-seong but before completing the thought, he takes his last breath. It’s an end of an era for Yi-han, who has wanted nothing more than to see Jin-gi’s end. But now that it’s over, he seems rather hopeless. Sad, almost.

Anyway, Hyun-seong, again, goes on to make a brash decision after he realises that Jayden is nowhere to be found and Yi-han gets news that Jayden is about to take off using Honours Hand’s chartered flight. At the airport, Yu-na is taken aback when she learns that Jin-gi has died and that’s why Jayden is running away. She asks him whether their sudden departure is due to Jin-gi’s death but before he can reply, Hyun-seong and Yi-han get there.

Hyun-seong, in a fit of rage, stabs Jayden in the middle of the airport, much to Yi-han’s horror. Jayden tells Yi-han with his last breath that he didn’t know how he got the heart and asks him to apologise to Seok-yeong for him. He rushes with Jayden to New Hope in order to get into surgery and after getting the necessary push from Seok-yeong, he gets right into opening up his chest.

One year later, and So-yeon is getting her surgery done. After a successful and tearful surgery, Yo-sub and Yi-han make up. Yi-han gets a retrial and that, too works out well for him. As his friends at the law office plan to celebrate, Yi-han goes to meet Jayden who is alive and well in prison. Yi-han is defending both Jayden and Hyun-seong and it seems like Hyun-seong will get a lighter sentence thanks to Jayden. However, the latter refuses to file an appeal.

At the party that night, Yi-han gives Seok-yeong great news – her heart transplant surgery has been scheduled to be performed by Yo-sub at Banseok. He further mentions that after she gets the surgery and gets healthy, they should get married. Or at least, he hints as such. Seok-yeong, at least, looks delighted at the hint.

In the end, Yi-han looks at the surgical tools at the clinic and picks up a call to get to his next case.

For everyone who waited for Jayden’s backstory patiently, I am sure everyone felt the same rage that I felt at the revelation of who died that night. It’s all fun and games until the mother dies and then it’s pandemonium. You know, I get Jayden’s need for revenge. I don’t think a lot of people would be able to keep their heads straight in the event that your long lost mother dies thanks to another person’s need for you to invest in their business. There is greed and then there is this boundary that you should never cross.

All in all, I think this was a thoroughly enjoyable episode and ends the series on a good note. It ties up all of the loose ends, delivers on revenge and gives us a sweet happy ending. Although the series got a bit repetitive in between, I think the last episode makes up for it and, furthermore, solidifies the fact for me that Jayden isn’t as much of a monster as Jin-gi, and that’s enough for me!
